bandwith control over users on network?

Hello is there a way to assign a certain bandwidth limit to users on a LAN network? I have Be* and i want one PC to use only 2Mbps for downloads.. as you may know, Be* has up to 24Mbps. i dont want my bro hogging up all the bandwith.

is there a way to do this via from the be box or from some form of software? i have the be box and a netgear router(enabled as a access point) plugged in together via homeplug network.

The be box is in my summer house, while the netgear in the main house

I doubt your bro can hog 24Mbps all day long (260GB/day) to affect you. If you're feeling any slow down when your bro is using, its either caused by high upload rate most likely bittorrent and/or your router not powerful enough to handle high number of connections.

    You can do either:

    1. Install Netlimiter on your bro's computer to restrict upload / download
    2. Connect your bro's computer through your computer and you cap the speed on your computer.

Neither the be box or the router have any bandwidth management built-in.

The easiest way to do this would be to get a small firewall router box from linitx.com, say something like this. , which comes with m0n0wall, which does traffic shaping.

Trafic shaping is the way to go IMHO. That way you simply give your traffic higher priority and walk all over his bandwidth habbits.

www.ipcop.org and an old PC should sort you out nicely.
