    Question Urgent router setup (n00b)

    Hello peeps.

    Telewest broadband cable modem, Lynksys router

    Ive set up my router between two machines. The primary system with the cable modem has windows me and my other rig xp. In Me i go to the start bar and select run then type in "winipcfg" this doesnt work in xp tho it seems

    Doesn anyone know how i can find out my xp rigs mac adress (think thats right ??)

    do you need to know the mac address or just the ip address??

    If you are wanting to register the router on BY self-help site, then the MAC should be on the label on the bottom of the router. That's the number you want to enter, not the MAC of your XP machine.

    Goto Start --> Run --> type in "cmd" --> OK
    type into the dos box that opens "ipconfig /all" look for the network card in question and you will see your mac address in the xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx format

    Thanks for the replys chaps. All is sorted now. I needed the physical address which i got from xps dos prompt thingy. The nice irish man at by tech support told my dad how lol Thanks again much appreciated

    I am now actually using my connection through my main rig (sig)

    as for finding the routers mac address..... some routers allow you to manually enter one from thier configuration screens....

    failing that, as said, look for a sticker
