wireless stuff (dlink)

okay
so I'm try to sort out my wireless stuff
dlink 614+ wireless router
520+ Pci card
650+ PCMCIA card

the latter doesnt' like my lappy so will test it and am selling it along with the PCI card
new netgear PCMCIA card is fine in the lappy
but doesn't connect to the router.
which did connect to the PCI card but not at all reliably

so what's up with dlink stuff for me?

any suggestions on settings, that I could be doing wrong?
anyone experienced with dlink?
atm I'm getting a netgear USB access point too, as they seem fairly bullet proof
