Still getting late night disconnection from ADSL Max!

Hi guys,

Zen are doing their best, but I'm still getting late night disconnections from my ADSL connection

Have upgraded Vigor 2600 G firmware, and it's helped, but it's still losing connection.

So we're onto the detail now...the nitty gritty. Zen have asked me to monitor this over a few weeks now, and I'm getting pretty fed up with losing connection.

SO far I have:

Disconnected all telephones. I normally only have 1 anyway.
CHanged Filters, on both Router and telephone.
Plugged Router in to the master plug, not into an extension (I did get a better signal to noise ratio, but still had a drop out)
I've coinfirmed that my central heating doesn't click in at the time it drops (yes...nmow we're clutching at straws)
Tried differed router (Netgeat 834) which held the signal but still wasn't surfable (that's why I upgraded the firmware on the Draytek, as it used to let go to easily. Now they both hold on, but lose the PPPoA link, although ADSL status remains)
and now I've been asked to monitor if the street lights or any of my house lights come on at the time I lose connection.

Guess who's gonna be sat watching the street lamp tonight?

I did ask if I could go backwards.....can I have normal boradband, not Max? Can I go back to my old 1mb connection?

Once I've monitored this whole lights and timier thing, it goes to the legendary BT for line complaint.

So...if anyone has any good ideas...I am literally, like Gary Lineker....ALL EARS!!!

Mine was doing that last week and I'm on Tiscali.

It turned out to be the free AvG I have, when it starts doing its anti virus scan it was disconnecting the ADSL.

this is a hardware router, and as I don't have any anti virus software, sadly I cant blame any software

They may not be able to put you back on the old fashioned 1Mbit, but they can ask for the line rate to be reduced. Ask them to try that

it didn't help that there was a world copper shortage about 20ish years ago. my dad was telling me about it when we were doing some plumbing in my flat.

Yea well, plumbing is one thing, electrical conductors is another, and thanks to maggie & co. everyone has to put up with sub-standard telephone and data services.

I have also been having "Limited or no connection" issues with Zen recently?, however I think this is due to my line length being V long

My line is shafted, so I get disconnected all the time, but BT haven't a clue and basically gave up trying to fix it.. the last "engineer" didn't even bother to turn up!

my main problem is that the BRAS profile is set from an average connection speed over several days, which given that my connection fails all the time is basically nothing..

So I'm now connected at 3.2Mbit, with an actual transfer rate of 140kbit/s from the BRAS profile.. *swears*

and yup, I can't ditch max without ditching Zen entirely..

I wasn't quire right there. You can have them change the acceptable SNR which wiull in turn reduce the line rate as BT find the fastest speed for your acceptable SNR

It might be one of two things, one your Draytek is faulty as I had exactly the same problem with a 2600G, but this was constant reconnects all day.

Two. in the phone box on your street where all the points go (usually a green box), they might be a crossed wire, we sent the Draytek back for repair and in the meantime I installed just a 2600, connections were better but still not perfect, we raised a fault with the line and BT came out, checked the box outside and someone previously had looped several phone cables and the one to my client wasnt properly connected.

He disconnected it and reconnected it properly and now they have one or two disconnections a day and thats it.

THe Vigoris rock solid all day long, and then late at night, at varying times, I get a massive signal to noise ratio drop and I lose it.

I'm SURE it's someone else in the street logging on late at night...

I willbe talking to Zen today. Poor sods...I know they must be frustrated by this...

Zen rock..they really do.

Have reported it, run through the entire check list of what I've done (firmware, new filters, diff router, used BT maser socket, streetlights not coming on, centralheating not coming on, one telephone plugged in, no telephones plugged in, etc etc)

And they've now explained what BT will do, and to make sure I keep updated via y emails and portal so that Iknow WHEN they've done stuff and in case they request more info....because if I miss a chance to report back to them, they'll put me back to the bottom of the pile.

would eliminate any problems caused by anyones mains fluctuation ?

as you say it sounds like someone with dodgy kit elsewhere ? a little crosstalk on a line causing it

Awww Zak, I feel for you buddy.

Zen have kept me posted all day. I had two complete down times for 5 mniutes today, which never happens during day time, so BT must be fiddling. Both times I got an update afterwardso it must be them playing around.
