Any ideas if this would work?

    OK guys, here's the scenario:

I have a wireless network already. Unfortunately it's a rubbish Netgear thing that reboots if you put more than 3mb/s through it, so I've dumped it down from 11g to 11b and now it seems stable.

I have a wireless card in my pc upstairs AND I have the xbox connected to my computer, with a software bridge in XP, thus enabling my xbox to connect to the network.

    Now, the fun bit.

I want a wireless bridge as cheap as chips for my brother's xbox in the next room.
Anybody know, if I got the right power adapter (~£5 afaik), if this would work:

Umm the link is for a Linsys Wireless G Phone Adaptor, so you can use a voip phone anywhere within your wireless network.

Best thing I can suggest as regards to the Xbox scenario is to either get one of these
    Clicky Uno

Or you could be ultra cheap as chips and buy another NIC put that into your system, bridge that connection to your current bridge and connect the Xbox.

I personally have the Wireless adaptor. I cant say im happy with it to be completely honest, but I havent actually had time to play around with it to get it working properly yet. Maybe if you did decide to go that route you would have better luck.

The extra NIC option isn't viable, as it's my brother's house and he doesn't want holes drilled everywhere.

In regards to the VOIP phone thingy, I know IP phones and they are effectively a network card with a few bits of hardware and software attached.

I refuse to fork out £40-50 for a wireless bridge!

Hmm, looking at the specs it uses all the right protocols, and has the right connections.....I guess it could work.

One thing I'd be wary of is the size of the antenna....that thing looks like a pretty small unit, with no ability to change the aerial, and a gain of 1dBi.....it's pretty wimpy. If your wireless reception is strong in your bro's room go for it, otherwise I reckon you'd be better off forking out the extra money for the bridge - there's nothing more infuriating than being cut from XBL mid-game intermittently due to a rubbish WiFi connection.

Well I have a naffy aerial on my current card and it's never dropped lower than max signal

Worst I can do is give it a try and, if its crap, say that and send it back

Ah... 14 day distance selling cool off tasty!

If it does work, however, and I find the power supply cheap enough, it could well be a viable alternative for people

Yeah, go for it mate....be interesting to hear how you get on

I'm always really picky about the aerials on my wireless equipment, as my house is like a black hole for radio waves of every kind, so I always approach wireless stuff from that perspective.
