    Problem downloading hotmail attachments

Hi folks, hope you might be able to help me out.....

Currently having difficulty downloading attachments from Hotmail e-mail website. Only have problems with non explorer compatible formats (so no problem downloading gif, jpeg, html etcetera) so anything that prompts a download dialogue box. Don't seem to be able to ping the IP address that comes up in the download dialogue (but would that be normal??). Tried turning off the firewall (windows) but didn't make any difference. Can download from other sites (free.grisoft.com, www.macromedia.com) with no problem.

Connection is 128Kbps ISDN with T-com (we're in Germany at the moment).

Cheers in anticipation of any suggestions!!

    Angus

Well, downloaded AVGfree (cue debate on whether said item of software is any good) and got friend to install it, who now can't connect to the internet at all (suspected clash with Norton, but haven't looked yet).

So going to go in and do clean install tomorrow. Anybody know if there's any software out there I can use to establish all the required drivers before wiping the system??
