Ways to monitor net usage?

Hope somebody can help here...

Ive just been slapped with a bill from BTopenworld for using over three times my download limit..

BT themselfs dont have any way i can see what my current "stats" are.. so wondering if anyone has any idea how i can set something up to monitor it myself.

Just to complicate things, DU meter would not help, as we have a home network with several PCs, a couple of wireless lappys and a couple of NAS devices.

Is there a router i can buy that will give me this functionality, orwill i need to build a proxy?

pfsense is quite good - it is a pc firewall on a cdrom You can leave it in 'monitor' bridging mode between your network and your adsl router though.
