top net providers at the mo

Before i go for the obvious (Zen) i thought i ask if there any others worth considering. It doesnt HAVE to be unlimiated as i dont do that much but prob 20 gb just to be safe. It will be used for gaming and erm,,,,,,gaming shared over 3 pc's max. Cheers guys.

Limit is 30 but would like it to be lower

    avoid bt like the plague.

(hint for zakky's post - highlight it)

Zen have always been highly recommended, freedom to surf are good if you intend to download - as it is unlimited 1am - 6am while having a fairly large usage limit, and is under £30 for the 50Gb/month tarriff

I'm not sure on the modem front, but as always google is your friend

However, if you are going to be sharing the internet connection, especially for gaming, you'll want to get a router, otherwise you are going to have massive ping problems. If you and friends can club together, then get another draytek, otherwise something like a netgear would be a good idea, just not as stable under heavy usage by all accounts

    Happy eclipse user here...

FYI I think their FUP is a capped limit of 20/30/40/50Gb depending on which tarriff you choose... You can download beyond these limits as they only apply between peak hours which are 6PM to midnight...

BT maybe worse than AOL with customer support (actually worse than anyone except Tiscali), but at least they don't route all traffic through the US...

IDnet is simply the best ISP i've been on in years. Great customer service, great speeds, migrating was just too easy & got online exactly when they said I would. Top marks

I dont know why in general some people (not directed at anyone - just a comment) have such a chip on there shoulder about Plusnet, granted they were the first to admit (in a relative sense) that they were using 'traffic management' or shaping - which didn't go down too well.

People couldn't/wouldn't understand that traffic management is needed as speeds ramp up, so the few cant spoil it for the many. I too admit wasn't too amused until I understood why.

I was with them for over 2 years - got a nice upgrade to DSL-Max which ended up at full rate 8Mb, I regularly got over 800KB/s with them. Game pings were always good also (5 eve accounts at the same time anyone?).

I'm now on Blueyonder 10Mb which is also excellent, as I moved house - looking forward to the upgrades at xmas.

    Anywant /rant over
