Anyone have any involvement in setting up remote (PDA) email access (with PGP)?

At very short notice I've had this thrust upon me and I need to get some idea of whether it's worth the money or not.

As far as I can see, it's a securely transmitted real-time email/calender solution for Exchange 2000 (not quite end-to-end as they claim, as it's not stored securely) with proprietory hand-held devices connecting to the Internet via GPRS.

It doesn't cater for PGP, it's a closed solution, so there's a shortcoming immediately.

One alternative would be to simply use the Outlook Web Access (OWA) over a standard HTTPS connection direct to our Exchange servers (access being governed by source address and controlled by 2 firewalls).
This would allow the use of any browser-based client, including a thick one such as a PC.

With this solution on, say, a Windows CE or PalmOS PDA, could we use the PGP Mobile software to access encrypted mails?
Or would it require the thicker Outlook-style client to integrate properly?

We have a leased line direct to Vodafone's GPRS network already, so we have that covered, which is why I want to look at solutions which don't involve 3rd parties like Blackberry if possible.

Has anyone already been through this exercise and can give some pointers?
Or can tell me what works/doesn't work for their company?

I like the OWA plan personally - what about using exchange 2k3 's RPC over HTTP feature with pocket outlook ( or is that not secure enough ? )

Stuck with Exchange 2000 - in fact we've not quite finished our migration from Groupwise 5.5 yet, so I think it might be a while before we change again

As for security, SSL is fine for transit, PDA access would be the most common via GPRS, so it won't be going near the Internet if we can help it.

There are some iPaqs floating around which I guess we could get GPRS-enabled and use the Outlook client on those to connect, presumably those could take the PGP Mobile client if required to.

I know very little (read: nothing really) about PDAs or smartphones other than that which hits the headlines on theregister.co.uk

I don't want to get rushed into this proposed Blackberry solution if in 3 months' time they (the board) are going to turn around and ask for PGP encryption facilities, or the ability to trade their mobiles and 'berries in for a phone capable of both features - I'd rather get it right now.
