Anyone on Nildram + Usenet?

I have the Nildram Broadband2 package and I regularly download from usenet, and recently speeds have stopped at 100kbps, im on 8MB and everything normally goes a damn sight faster than that, normal websites download fine.

Anyone else on Nildram who uses Usenet?

Just switched to port 80 and its all good.

Yup had the same problem, I could still get full speed through port 119 if I connected a few times, but using port 80 now and it's all good again. Although I don't know how long it will take for them to start thottling that one as well.

That would mean they'd be throttling webpage speed. They're not going to do that in a hurry.

Actually, Nildram are not thottling anything port at the moment. After reading up a little I found this

We have recently implemented traffic shaping measures in an attempt to prioritise services used by the majority of our users. We will be releasing a more detailed statement regarding these traffic shaping measures in the near future.

At the moment we have not been given full details on the way that this traffic shaping system will function, but please feel free to address your concerns and we will document them and answer them when we recieve more information.

Clearly thats an error from Nildram. Is there an 8MB service anywhere thats under £30 and proper unlimited?

Apparently AOL 8mb is good at the moment. That might change when it gets bought though.

Stupid Question, but I’m also having the problem with my internet connection running slow.... How to I go about seeing what port I’m using and changing it?

Will this help for the problem I have recently been having with high ping when playing online?

Different internet protocols use different ports, port 80 is the standard 'web' port, and usually usenet uses 8080 or 80 ( i think?) but nildram throttle bandwidth on port 8080 (or whatever the newsgroup port is), if the newserver is running on port 80 aswell then that can be changed...

You cant change the port for anything else really, and even if you could it wouldnt help your high ping...

google for the adsl congestion checker and see if your exchange is congested

I'm switching from nildram to Be in january (when my exchange is Be enabled) had enough, rumours are on ADSLguide are that they will be totally swallowed by pipex soon. I've had 6 years of top quality service and 1 year of rubbish, its a shame to see Pipex ruin a quality ISP.

My thoughts as well, been with Nildram for 4 great years, shame to see them go down the pan. my connection with IDNet is supposed to change over at 6pm on friday.
