Can Server 2003 be used as a AP?

So at the moment I have a home server running 24/7 and a d-link wireless ADSL router.

I was thinking about switching to a much more powerful, but wired only, adsl router I have available. So I was thinking about putting a wireless PCI card into the server and using that as the wireless AP. It will be pretty cheap (about £15 for a G card on scan) and since I have the server running all the time anyway it will be using less power than a seperate AP.

Anyone know if this is possible? and how viable a solution this will be in regards to performance and security (WPA/Radius)?

I'd imagine it would be possible , but not sure about WPA . If you wanted to be clever you could use 802.11x authentication with a bit of IPSEC

I'd recomend using a dedicated low power box. Find an old computer, or buy something like an Eden, and run m0n0wall, a great firewall, and has all kinds of neato access point stuff.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)

I have looked into linux based solutions and although they are tempting I was hoping not to use any more power than needed. I cant really find much on the microsoft site about Windows 2003 and wireless, I dont really want to use a 3rd party app.

I am thinking the best thing to do is Q-Collect one from scan next friday afternoon and try it (after a manual backup), I suppose the worst that happens is it doesnt work.

m0n0wall is BSD (a good kernel)

You can get eden style boards that use less than 17Whatts... including the flash memory (64meg... wow!) required to run m0n0wall
