Right, i've a question that has been bugging me for about two weeks now.
I know that telephone calls are sampled 8,000 times per second, each sample being one bit - therefore POTS telephone calls are 64Kbps, correct?
I also know that POTS uses the 300-3400Hz frequency range (or thereabouts, thats the figure I was given by my lecturer, other sources say its 0-4000Hz).
My question is - how does a bandwidth of (around) 3.1/4KHz translate into being able to carry 64Kbps of Data?
Cheers, David
Edit: confused myself a bit with Hz/Mhz/Khz justnow, i'll check 'em later and correct any mistakes!
