    Streaming HD Video

I am currently building a Media Centre around the Skystar 2 Satellite Receiver in order to receive mainly HD channels, so far I have Technisat Skystar 2 PCI receiving BBC HD channel (ASTRA 2) using DVB Viewer Pro software.

Any clues on what is the best way to stream this to HD TV. I am looking at several streaming devices ethernet linked to PC since I assume WIFI will be too slow.

The devices are 1)Pixel Magic HD Media Box, 2)Philips SLM5500, 3) Pinnacle Showcentre 200 all of which will stream HD via Ethernet.

Will any of these stream at real time or will they only stream video files?
Do any of the sofware media viewers recognise Skystar 2?
    Anyone gone down this route?

I already use Showshifter and Cyberlink Powert Cinema working on digital DVB -T receiver but they do not recognise Skystar 2.

Any advice in this area would be appreciated.
    Cheers

Im also looking for one of these, and have *almost* decided on the D-Liunk DSM-520 at about £180 ish (UK).

HDMI, 5.1, and with DTS as passthrough, and it handles almost any file format. I've also spoken to 2 others who have it and it comes highly recommended. I use .ts files, renamed to .mpg in MPG4 encoding, and I'm looking forward to seeing these in HD at 720P in my LG.

Thanks for reply - I've now had a look at DSM 520 spec and it seems fit for the job, however looking for user reviews on cnet gives a very mixed bag from near perfect to rubbish. I really want something that works out of the box which seems a rare occurance these days so will hold meantime since I am looking to use it at the high end of its spec for HD material. I will be very interested if you decide to buy so keep in touch - thanks again

I've just ordered the DSM-520 from Komplett. More research indicated that the file formats I was chasing were incorrect and my existing files *will* play OK.

Wil post review within a week or so.

Look forward to your next post - still stuck wth .TS files which can only be read by DVB Viewer - I have tried to convert but so far without success since they are HDTV .TS files from BBC HD channel (MPEG4 H.264/AVC codec)

See my review in Hexus HD. Not happy. TS files are generally MPEG-2 at 1920x1080i. Renaming to .mpg will make them play if you have VLC or similar.

I'm back to square one though...

This thing is nice <linkeh>, I was able to stream the results to my xbox360. Given the 360's pickyness, I'd say that's quite an accomplishment.

Have any of you guys streamed any very high bit rate 1080i/1080p to your 360?

Currently trying to figure out where my networking issues lie as the high birate stuff is breaking up due to network issues (works fine playing locally and only seems to happen in fast moving scenes)

Currently using an Edimax 8 port gigabit switch but wondering if a different switch could make a difference.

Current research from me indicates the Pixel Magic to be the best of the bunch, but the IAMM-36 and the TivX/Dvix etc are close seconders.

The D-Link still won't get my approval, but eventually I decided to build a HTPC. Bits mostly here, building on Saturday ish.

My main PC will play everything I throw at it (up to 22Mbps), and the only difference in the new one is the gfx output (onboard 6150) and the RAM is only 1GB not 2GB. High hopes for the new PC then
    Cheers, David
