Arrow I can’t use the LAN to connect to the internet..

I can’t use the LAN to connect to the internet..

I have a pc here at work with a network card… I need to download some files onto it and when I connect a pc that is not from work to the LAN I would just type in the ‘lan settings box’ under proxy server the number that all the other PC’s use and away we go… but this pc I have brought in already has ‘waitrose’ dial up installed, I have told the pc not to dial up a connection but it just says page can’t be found and ideas guys? Am I missing something?

    DNS?
How do the machines know what DNS servers to use, do you type them in manually or is it DHCP?

Tried rebooting with the network cable plugged in after changing those settings?

Just been looking at my friends computer and the internet is playing up…
She has waitrose internet provider installed and when she connects, things like yahoo and Norton live update work… plus email via outlook… but no explorer, I have now installed the computer at work on the lan and I get the same problem, I pulled off two harmless virus’s but nothing that should have messed the ie up…

    Any ideas?

    open up IE
got to tools , internet options and click on the connections tab.

click the lan settings button and make sure that the proxy settings match those on machines that can access the web via IE.
