    NIC Drivers Needed?

    Hello all,

just got back from my mums friends house, who has just bought one of the sky broadband packages that they have offered, so I went round to set it up.

Anyway, I've done it a million times before, so no problems right? Wrong.... Sky in their infinite wisdom have decided to sell this package to an old lady whose computer does not have an ethernet port... even though its on the minimum requirements on the CD provided. Looks like they just wanted to sell....

So, basically, I need to get a PCI NIC and install it. I've tried to check at the usual suspects in Watford (well, at places i can pick up at tomorrow) for a cheap NIC, but no dice. Eventually, I have found a spare one in my box of computer parts - BUT...

The computer is fairly old and is running Windows ME. What i want to know is will i need to have drivers for this NIC (Which is a pretty bog standard one really)? If so, are there places to get a generic one or will it have to be really part specific?

Would like to know so that I can DL anything i need before i go there tomorrow to do this all... What a chore!!!

    Any help would be great!

    Jonny

If you can find the FCC number on the PCI card you can use one of the following pages:

    https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/c...ericSearch.cfm

    http://freepctech.com/pc/001/fcc_search_engine.shtml

to identify the card and see if you can find drivers.

Well, I had a look on the actual NIC itself, and it seemed to be a Davicom chip on it, so i wondered off and tried to find the drivers, copied a few. Went round and after a while (For some reason some of the PCI slots on her computer didnt seem to recognise that fact something had been plugged in) i got it to work... for now anyway!

But that'll teach me to chuck about those driver disks 'That I dont need'

Thanks for all the help though
