    Question Demon.net - ISP for me ?

    Hello All,

I have decided to change my ISP due to Virgin.net's inability to provide a half decent 8 meg service.

Service was fine up until about October but it has been unacceptable since.

Demon.net's HomeOffice 8000 package is my current preference.

    £24.99 - 8Mbps - Static IP address.

I require an ISP which is going to provide low stable ping rates for online gaming (with virgin experienced ping of 200 - 300 during peak times), plus fast download speed.

Have you had any experience with Demon, Good or Bad ?

Can you recommend anyone better ?

Looked at Idnet but they have 30GB limit on similar package.
    Thanks

    NOOOOOOOOOO nonono.

demon are also having a lot of trouble accomodating Maxdsl, slows to a crawl at peak time.

also, Demon have a "fair usage policy" which when translated into bull****-free talk means they have a usage cap.

i ping at about 80-110 to mst servers i use. which for DSL is pathetic

ahhhhh there goes another one then.....

what is it with ADSL max and poor ping rates.

is this just a general network / exchange / line issue ???

    are all ISP's suffering ?

I cant see why all these ISP's give such terrible speeds and ping's.

Ive been with AOL for 6years and have always had pings of under 35. I know there price for a 2.5mbp's line is £25 but for being a 6year customer i get it as cheap as chips.

I hear people arent interested in AOL as they do thing's "differently" but you dont need to use there software, tbh its crap but the line is 100% stable and wair for it..... customer service actually WORKS!

Im on Demon.net at the moment.

I have no problems pinging servers. But you should avoid them if you need to download things. They introduced a 50gb download limit without telling me. So my shared line was then limited to 128kbs which isn't even enough for internet radio. Not just annoying me, but the other people I share my connection with. Joy!

    Id steer clear for now.

Demon are still in a state of flux as they were sold by THUs, can't remember who to though. I would avoid them until they have been integrated properly with their new owner.

Was considering Be* unlimited but just read on dslzoneuk.net message board that they have had the same problems as I am encountering for the last three months.

What has changed in the last three months to cause these high ping issues at Peak time? Seems to be affecting a lot of people.

Surely its not ADSL Max issue for everyone is it ?

I recently moved to demon and have had no problems. They monitor bandwidth usage on a rolling monthly basis during peak hours and will limit you for one month if you are a heavy user, during non-peak hours however you can download as much as you like with no penalties. I moved from NewNet (who were fantastic) but they increased their charges this month to a level I wasn't happy with (probably a deserved increase in all honesty, they are a very good ISP).
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Demon were quick and reliable when I had 2meg ADSL from them, then they 'upgraded' me to their 8meg service and it's unbelievably slow at times. I hadn't heard about the capping though Can you pack up and leave without penalties of they change the service?

Check out 'BT Speed Test' Thread - I had rubbish ping when moved to 8 meg, back to 2 meg and problem resolved.

    Absolutely.....
Im no mug when it comes to PCs either and i can honestly say that AOL CS is no better or worse than anyone elses and from experience, their connections are way faster, more stable and never drop.
