    Pipex Trouble Advice Needed!!

    Hey,

I am currently a customer with pipex and just recently their speeds have become atrocious after 3pm i came home from work this evening and only wanted to download a 7mb file for a programme update which took me almost 10mins at 36kb/s i have run speed tests and they are saying that i have 522kb/s down where as i am paying for a 2mb line.

Is their any way i can pull out of the contract with pipex if this continues? Should i gather evidence in the form of speed test daily at different times of day. also what channels would i need to go down to get this resolved becuase pipex customer support is not the best by no means.

    Many Thanks

I too am having very slow download speeds with Pipex. I got "regraded" to the 8Mb service back in November and was very happy with it, 6.5Mb in my area and constant high bandwidth.

In December I had a physical line fault fied by BT but my connection is now as you describe.
I'm holding back on a complaint at the moment as I think I might be in the 10 day retraining period.

What service plan are you on?

I would send an email detailing your speed issue and ask what is the reason for this and also try calling - they do answer their emails after a few days!

Iam just on a normal 2MB line, this morning the internet was blistering and then around 4:30 the line dropped off again to 32kb/s.

I think i will have to do something about this.

I've also had the same problem, we havent had a stable connection for well over a month now. They keep closing the call when they see it connect, but we get around 500k downstream at best. It's not acceptable and we have asked for compensation as I am not paying for a service i am not receiving.

Our line refuses to sync, then when it does it's a 500k (usually 160k) downstream, then falls off again, not to be seen for a couple of days. BT say it's not their fault, I know it's not my hardware (as it works when it syncs, and it's all been swapped out) pipex don't seem to write down what we're saying.

We're now emailing in our connection stats so they can see what our connection is like. I just wish someone would give me a reason for it and take responsibility.

I've started using DSL Zone UK (http://www.dslzoneuk.net/) to run speed tests a couple of times a day as it records all your tests and can graph them as well.

I did get loads of disconnects before Xmas and it was very irregular, had a BT engineer come out and do tests for an hour or two to find nothing, he only saw the fault on his final test (thank god).

The problem was with the cable from the middle of the street to the top of the pole and was swapped out a couple of days later. Since then I don't get the major disconnects but I do have slow speeds mostly but sometimes it's fast - I don't understand!

This was my fastest speed since my problems:
    http://www.dslzoneuk.net/speedtest/s....php?id=393641
Normally they are less than 1000Kbps.

My 'sync' speed is nearly always 5000K.

I think you are stuck for the contract period as their terms and conditions state the speed you get as a maximum rather than a given.

If you have been with Pipex for more than 12 months then u can leave with no fee. If not u have to by out the remainder of your contract, Pipex have gone down hill big time. Unfortunatley u cant even argue the service isnt fit for use as speeds above i think its 400k on a 2 meg line are considerd "ok"

    Permanently confused

Stompy that's very interesting as I've been putting it down to the change to ADSL Max. My problems too are generally in the evening, when I download in the morning I get around 400KB/sec, in the evening it's about 30KB/sec.

I wonder if Pipex have bitten off too much at the moment what with all the companies they have been buying up. If they now all share the same bandwidth then I suppose that could explain things.

I'm going to sit tight at the moment and see what happens - I'm happy with Pipex's technical ability to stay up at least :-s

i think its much the same everywhere with pipex at the moment.. i am on an 8mb line and again i seem to get very low speeds from 6 till about ten, when it then gets faster and i receive the 7mb i should be...

think this is due to it being a peek time and the amount of people that pipex have signed up just like abeacock said they may have bitten far too much off too chew. maybe they may sort it out but i am going to hold on as when it's good then it's good... and same again i have had no trouble with the service apart from this.

Thanks guys for posting about the slow speed in the evenings, whether on ADSL Max or normal ADSL. It starts to make me think that it's not just me or my exchange but a larger issue with Pipex.

Let's hope more people with Pipex issues post here so that we can get a true view of the situation.

I used to be with Pipex and towards the end of the year my speeds became progressively worse. I'm not a heavy user so it didn't occur to me at first but it became annoying that when I did want to download a file, I often wasn't able to do so quickly.

I then changed my ISP to NewNet and my speeds have been flying since, no slowdown whatsoever. The only downside now is that NewNet have since upped their prices so I'm looking for a new ISP once more.

As for Pipex, my advice I'm afraid would be to migrate to another ISP.
