    the realities of parenting

Well here's one thing I never realised about parenting. You spend half your life ill courtesy of all the bugs they bring home. Our wee one permanently has some form of ailment, even if just low level cold. Recently we've had norovirus, winter tummy bugs, colds, hand foot and mouth (twice), sicky bugs, fevers, rashes and chest infections that stop them sleeping properly. I'm not sure how I'm meant to function while ill, sleep deprived, and up all night trying to nurse a poorly toddler. This is really impacting on my ability to do anything. Talk about design flaws. 1 star for quality control. Will not buy again.

Thing is the next model is not an improvement, it still comes with the same issues!

    Re: the realities of parenting

I remember the early days when my child first went to nursery and it was just like this, I remember always feeling ill to some level for about 4 months straight.

It seems as the years have gone on its got much better as my childs immune system has gone through many of them now.

    It will get better.

    Re: the realities of parenting

yeah this one's definitely faulty. The latest upgrade has seen it start to talk and walk which is great, but in doing so it's become a fussy eater and will no longer try new foods or eat things it used to. The devs really need to work harder before releasing beta code into the wild.

I'm already broken and resigned to my fate. It's basically a life sentence of sleep deprivation stress and no time to yourself ever again. It's not something I would recommend to a sane person.

    Re: the realities of parenting

I feel you man, really I do. I have been a single parent to my two for 17 years, both are over 18 now.

I lost a lot along the way, including my mind at some point I'm sure. But gained much too.

Still haven't managed to work out the source code. I thought the watchclock ended at 18 but apparently it doesn't!

    Re: the realities of parenting

I am starting to see advantages as mine has been through several upgrades to version 8.

So now I have to someone to talk about what will happen with the milky way and andromeda galaxies collide as the wife just looks at me funny when I talk physics and stuff.

I'm subscribed to way too many Youtube channels on the subject of physics, astronomy, cosmology etc I've been enjoying the various lectures & discussions for the World Science Festival just recently.

Whatever the consequences of the collision of Andromeda with the Milky Way might be, it's not going to happen for another four billion years or so, so probably not something to get overly worried about!

Absolutely, The sun will probably collapse and swallow the earth before the collision so nothing to worry about.

But the short is eventually children can be firmware upgraded to hold intelligent conversations so its not all bad.

If you get far enough away from the sun to witness it........not a lot will happen. The skies will just look a bit more starry. The odds of a single star or planet colliding at all during this so called collision are incredibly remote. Wither there being 100 billion stars in the milky way, the odds of a star colliding near you are 100 billion times less than incredibly remote!

    Re: the realities of parenting

Whether planets do or don't collide one thing is certain: If there is a poopy nappy on the floor while I try and wipe his backside, my son will do his utmost to collide with it. Usually I am successful in preventing it. The other morning however he did a move a wrestler would be proud of to get free of my grasp, then slammed his leg down with full force and rolled across the floor. We were very late to nursery that day. Very very late. Cleaning two people and a room takes a long time.
