    New arrival

On Tuesday afternoon at 13:55 our daughter Ella arrived weighing in at 7.1 pounds.

She was 2 weeks early but perfect in every way. Such a good feeling to have her now.

We made a spontaneous decision to have a water birth which worked really well.

The midwifes at the hospital were all excellent and really helpful after the birth, which surprised me as other seems to have had different experiences.

    Let the sleepless night begin!

Congratumalations matey Bestest feeling in the entire world isn't it? Yes you'll never sleep again, and your life will NEVER be your own again, but you wouldn't change a thing - I know I wouldn't Ella's a nice name too -that was on our list, but we settled with Faye

    Re: New arrival

    Congratulations!

I think people start to get grouchy when births drag on. I have alot more respect for midwives after seeing them in action, anxious tired parents to be seem t be the biggest cause. They must take so much abuse as often there is no quick fix to a delivery; no two are probably the same!

If you are breastfeeding her (not you personally obviously) then a pair of ear pulgs is a great help! I'm pretty much deaf so I already had a great excuse.

    Re: New arrival

    congratulations, mate.

definitely encourage the wife to breast-feed if there is/ are no good reason(s) not to. whilst there are lots of studies showing how good breast milk is for the baby etc. (and probably as many studies showing no significant advantages), the obvious plus is that unless she expresses the milk each evening, you might have to get up less often (notice 'less' not 'never') at night to feed Ella

    Re: New arrival

If I can offer one piece of advice, get them into a good feeding ritual early on and they will be sleeping through by 3 months. We read a book called "On becoming babywise" ISBN 1932740082 when we had our second daughter and it has been a lifesaver. She is 6 weeks old and now only wakes once during the night for a feed!

    Re: New arrival

    Massive congratulations!

My wife also chose to have a water birth once we arrived at hospital but after a few hours the midwife said she was too relaxed (I must've been the only one that noticed the screaming ) so she had to leave the pool to finish.

    All ended well though

    Again congratulations!
