My 1 year old daughter refuses to drink anything but milk

At the end of my tether. Tried over 7 billion cups and 4 billion flavours of liquid from, glacier water to Dom Perignon, in temperatures ranging from absolute zero to hotter than the sun, and she will not have anything apart from milk.

She'll drink either formula (luke warm) or cows milk, any ideas men?

How about gradually watering the formula/milk down over the period of a month or two. That would get her used to water.

    Managed to double post

her formula is already watered down, she has extra liquid as we try and get as much water inside her as possible.

Is it an issue for you? Just keep watering it down slowly, eventually her tastes will change, unless it's a problem for some reason does it really matter?

Our little one (3yo) drinks milk or water, thats it, no fruit shoots or other assorted junk & it's great for him.

Rob B : It's an issue as much as I'd her to have the extra bit of water she doesnt need than her to get dehydrated, and i dont want her to be drinking formula all her life

oolon : Tried watered down fruit juice, she doesnt like it, closest thing she will have is the Ellas Kitchen fruit smoothies.

Re: My 1 year old daughter refuses to drink anything but milk

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean? You just want her to drink more liquids? If she'll drink watered down cows milk then there isn't really a 'problem' other than you want her to try other things.

If she'll drink milk, water (eventually if you keep watering it down) and smoothies then you're laughing, I shudder when I see kids drinking anything other than those sorts of drinks.

Re: My 1 year old daughter refuses to drink anything but milk

She wont drink it willingly, she will have her 3 bottles a day, 7 ounces each, and if we manage a few more aounces of fluids it's a good day.

Re: My 1 year old daughter refuses to drink anything but milk

Maybe she's just full or had enough? If she likes milk but won't drink any more then that suggests that no? Isn't 21 ounces already quite near the limit of what a 1yr old should be drinking anyway? (24oz IIRC?)

Re: My 1 year old daughter refuses to drink anything but milk

like a light switch, she'll change to wanting something else... and you'll look back at this and wonder why you ever wanted her to change at all.....

when you say you've tried lots of different cups.... try a small cup of water, inch deep, left in her reach where she can't drop it into an electric fire or anything and let her find it.....

might work... force something, you'll.... LOSE

let her doscover something.. you might have a result.....

she is, after all... still a woman, and who ever TOLD a woman what to do? no.. you have to let them think it's their idea.....

Zak's right as usual - you can't force anything on kids. She's drinking SOMETHING, which is a hell of a lot better than nothing at all. It'll happen, when she's ready and not before

Russ, please don't think me condescending, but I think you're over thinking this.

    This isn't a tick-box exercise. She's drink when she's ready. Don't rush these things.

It sounds like you've been listening to health professionals, maybe the midwife? They are excellent, by and large, but they do like their babies to do things by the book and parenting babies is a VERY inexact science.

Enjoy these early years, don't sweat minor behavioural quirks. When you've had 3, you'll look back on this and chuckle.

Re: My 1 year old daughter refuses to drink anything but milk

Lucy is 18 months, drinks more water than milk, once we stopped the bottles with teets she stopped necking a 7oz bottle.

maybe time to swap to sippy cups to kick start the transition ?

she will be thirsty for a day or 2 until she is used to it then they get to grips with it.
