    Does anything compare?

To all the daddies out there -

Does anything ever compare again to hearing your little one cry for the first time? Our little man is five weeks old now but I still haven't forgotten that feeling at that particular moment.

There was such a build up due to it being a planned c/s and descriptions right the way through it (waters broken, sucking waters out, here comes baby) and then he did that half waterlogged cry. As unmanly as it is, I melted. Such an unbelievable feeling and something that I myself believe, nothing will come close to.

Opinions welcomed Or you could tell me to Man Up!

    Re: Does anything compare?

My little guy is just over three weeks old. I guess things like this are different for everyone. David his name is, and he cried almost immediately after being delivered, but I can't say that particular moment was the most moving. I think his first smile has been the biggest thing for me so far. This huge smile, mouth, eyes, his whole face lighting up, has been my moment so far. There have been lots of other amazing things about him, but it was the smile that hit me the most emotionally.

Oh, and a man that can't be moved in his heart, is half a man.

Just wait until they come asking for money, you won't forget that because it will be constant.
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?

No it really doesn't... our little one didn't have the smoothest of entries into the world, and once they'd checked her over to see if she was alright, I got handed a little bundle of gooey baby while they went to fix the mrs... There's a picture of me with wee one in my arms, she's literally 3 minutes old and I've got the dumbest look on my head that I've ever worn. Terrified and properly made up all at the same time Makes me grin just thinking about it!

    Re: Does anything compare?

it wasn't the cry.. it was the sight of what had been a growing bump on my wife's belly... turning out to actually be what everyone said and which my brain understood.. but my heart wasn't ready for... a little grey/blue baby who turned a proper colour a few minutes later...

my legs buckled and I went down in a straight line as though a hole has open below me.... straight down. Breathing was a tad tricky for about 30 seconds.. and I reeled in the way people do in films.

Not sure I'd say it was the best moment of my life.. I was looking forward to it all but being mentally pollaxed was a shock I shall never forget.

The best moment was when he said Dadda... obviously it was many months later.. but it was awesome.. and he said it over and over to make me smile.

I started saving for his first car, and university that day

    Re: Does anything compare?

My fourth's just getting to the right age now, about to hit eight months, and I know that for the next 16 months or so he's going to be nothing but unadultarated love. He's already started, when I walk through the door, to thrash around in his mothers arms as he sees me, a huge grin stretching out his face, and that low throaty giggle already in his throat.

Then there are the cuddles - I'll have him in my arms, then he'll turn, look up into my eyes, then drop his head to my chest and hold it there for a second or two. He'll be back to taking in the world a moment later, but for that brief second, the world's a perfect place.

My oldest's nine now, over four foot tall, and still likes to be picked up for a cuddle (big sap that he is). Almost pulls my arms out of their sockets, but I wouldn't change it for all the tea in China.

    Re: Does anything compare?

Mine only cries when I beat him. (joke)

I finally cottoned on to the fact we were going to have a child when my wife was washing some of the newborns clothes and I hung them up. The little vibrating tongue I find fascinating and that funny clean smell of newborns.

    Re: Does anything compare?

My daughter is four in a month and I would have to say there are certain things that never go away.

The first cry (I have to admit to being in tears in the delivery room when I heard that).
The first time they reach out and wrap their little hand around your finger.
    The first laugh.
And by far the thing that got me more than anything was the very first time she looked up at me and said "I love you pappa", I just totaly melted.

My wife just smiles at me sometimes when I find myself standing at her bedroom door watching her sleep with a stupid big grin on my face.
