Protecting TV from baby, suggestions?
Looking for suggestions on how to protect the TV from my nephew, some reason the female side of my family dont respect electronics so while im at work all day they dont care about trying to teach my nephew to stop touching the tv and stand which is bad for him and bad for me! Got attached to my Panasonic ST50... the last line of plasmas and my best TV purchase ever :(.
I had an idea of something like a 3 panel 'gate' like you get the single panel for staircases but I am having a really bad day and cant seem to find any, my Googlefu is horrendus today so I would appreciate any help regarding this, so far I have found a 6 panel play pen which allows you to move the panels anyway you want but its £80... I dont need this all I need is a simple metal panel that is short enough to see the tv but sturdy enough to stop him attempting to touch the tv.
Old picture but its pretty much the same apart from a different tv

Help appreciated!

Search ebay for "folding dog run"
They don't have to be set up as a pen like in the pictures, I've set mine up as a slightly zig-zag'd fence to protect my AV kit from my brothers dog when it's around.
Maybe it'll work for a baby too?

Lindam Safe and Secure Metal Playpen comes with wall mounts, covers our TV and fireplace along with enough room for my 5 year old to keep all her crap he keeps trying to frigging eat :shocked2:
I had some massive velcro straps so one ends attached to the rad and the other the settee rather than drill the wall.
Re: Protecting TV from baby, suggestions?
Hmm, this is why i liked tube TV's as they could fall on babies, therefore teaching them quicker not to mess with your electronics

ha techtorpedo.
trying turning off the backlight and lowering the brightness or buy a mounting bracket (for the tv).
the good old days when radiation and static coming off your tv would keep the kids away.

We still have a CRT; about 20kg worth and pretty robust. Not so worried about it.. How old is said nephew? From about 18 most months you can put the fear of god into them. Persuade him it will kill him in a loud, excited but serious voice over and over again while holding his fore arm and pointing at the dangerzone. Repeat whenever you see him encroaching. I did that with plug sockets and it seems to have worked okay. The fore arm grab stops them escaping :). If you can't disciine them they'll get someone's else's TV :(
As an alternative; A cheap table would raise if off the floor to safety. If your sofa is far enough back it should be okay to n your neck.

That kid's expression! At risk of being constructive; think like a baby/young child. Lie on the floor, and imagine all the equipment, etc to explore, and also dangerous surfaces to fall on. I used shelves and kid proof plugs. My son used to play happily for hours in the lounge on his own, listening to classical music. Distraction is also good, get something more interesting. Good luck!
Re: Protecting TV from baby, suggestions?
You cannot protect anything from babies/toddlers. The only thing you can do is make it difficult and be around.
They will find the weakpoint and WILL exploit it.
Re: Protecting TV from baby, suggestions?
Get some of that electrified cattle fence stuff, no only will it keep your nephew away, it will teach others that going near the TV is bad for them.

Spray it all in jungle formula. It tastes rank and when said nephew touches screen/stand then inevitably puts hand in mouth (which kids do) it will hopefully make him stay away.

Get hold of some Bitrex "In 1982, Bitrex® was officially recognised as the world’s most bitter substance by the Guinness Book of Records – in fact it is so bitter that a teaspoon full of Bitrex® would still be tasted in an Olympic sized swimming pool!"
If it works to stop pigs cannibalising each other's tails, then surely it'll stop a child using deejayburnout's theory...
