    Proud family moment :-)

My Dad's built himself a PC, entirely, from scratch and it's a beauty

He was 70 this year, and he decided it was time to build the video editing machine of his dreams, himself and not with any help. He lives 250 miles away so I cant pop over!

He researched it, chose the components, ordered them, built it, and with only my input on a change of heat-sink and a cheap spare cheap gpu, he's done it entirely.
I remote accessed it yesterday and it's a perfect install, lightning fast and as clean as you like

An i7 5820, 16 gig of DDR4 (more later), a big quiet noctua cooler, Corsair Carbide 400 case...two SSD's and two 3 tb HDD's ....and although he's got a GTX570 in his old rig, he decided to buy a smaller GPU to get started before swapping the 570 over and got an EVGA 610.

All in all..... I'm proud of the old man

it's the PC I'd have built if I wanted that kinda muscle.

Not many people in their 70s can say that, I suspect. Well done to him!

My Dad is 67 and builds his own PC's. I bought him a decent rig for his brithday last year (a 3XS barebones from Scan ) that he researched himself. He also plays a lot of Battlefield/CoD/ArmA!

so the son learnt form the master ... he did make you
    well done to him ..
What does it matter now if men believe or no?
What is to come will come. And soon you too will stand aside,
To murmur in pity that my words were true
    (Cassandra, in Agamemnon by Aeschylus)

To see the wizard one must look behind the curtain ....

It's so satisfying when you can see something like this happen when you get to support your parents and watch them learn a new skill later in life.

    that's great!
It's so nice to see that not only parents teach their children something, but children also are ready to support their parents in any new beginnings

Did he record the build process so you can watch it and pick up any tips?

    Well it runs sweet as...

but.,.. TWO EVGA power supplies haved failed and it's rather sad but Dad had to pay to send them back uinder warranty to Europe. He got replacements both times but its cost a lot of money in postage

    Apart from that...it's superb.

He gave me his old monitor as he upgraded to a 4k job
