Social Media posts about "parents bragging" about Christmas presents for kids

This is a "thing" it seems -

Parents who take photo's of the presents under the tree, and post them on social media, potentially making other family's feel like they're not spending enough!

Is this a thing? Is this like the "party bag" phenomenon of a few years ago when parents hosting little Johnnies 5th birthday were competiing on the size and cost of the party Bag that the guests kids left with?

    Enquiring minds ned to know!!

Parents are some of the most passive-aggressively competitive beings on the planet, I think... Even the Ttaskmistress is full-on about it.
I'm just quietly proud that mine is far ahead of all the others in the group, although I presume that's because she reads HEXUS a lot.

Re: Social Media posts about "parents bragging" about Christmas presents for kids

when the "party bags" got silly about 5 years ago, I proudly took my lads friends to the woods on his birthday and they went home with self made bow and arrows, torn jeans and birthday cake crushed into their various bodily crevices along with mud. They seemed ok tbh

and the parents looked a tad relieved

but with this Christmas present thing.. I have now actually seen a few on FB and i can see it causing all sorts of bad feeling!

Re: Social Media posts about "parents bragging" about Christmas presents for kids

Got to be honest we're still lucky with our two. They only get adverts occasionally as they mainly watch Amazon prime/netflix so had very simple demands this year (Also very young 2 and 5). Got to be honest its nice to spoil your kid a bit but this just seems like your going to make a monster when they grow up thinking they can have everything they want. They also won't even touch half the stuff. I won't be competing.

I'm also annoyed with how silly advent calendars are getting - Why does your kid need a toy everyday for 24 days before getting lots more - its just chocolate for my two!

All about keeping up with the Joneses, dunno who they are and why people seem to find the need to keep up with them, perhaps they are running from something...

Re: Social Media posts about "parents bragging" about Christmas presents for kids

I know people who do it. My wife has done it in the past - she was quite proud of the effort she'd made one Xmas Eve and the results, so she shared it with friends and family on Facebook - it was all about setting the scene for the kids coming downstairs in the morning.

If some snowflake thinks that will hurts someone's feelings, I don't give a damn.

Re: Social Media posts about "parents bragging" about Christmas presents for kids

im now wondering what the "what did you get for chrismus?" QOTW threads going to be like.
and are us lot on here better or worse that those Instagram parents?

and if anyones wrapped their presents worse than I have?

hint: mine have been wrapped in GPU anti static bags, craft paper left over from when i was child and some cellotape that came out a cracker a few years ago.

Re-re-re-using wrapping paper from Christmasses, birthdays and all other occasions, along with newspaper.
Wifey is on a save-the-planet kick, at the minute.
However, I can never get the corners square enough and use too much tape, so my wrapping is usually ridiculously untidy... but then I do also have three enthusiastic dogs trying to 'help' me, and you'll never guess what it is from the shape!!

I believe the idea came about as essentially Landing Lights for the sleigh, but obviously developed long before aviation and runways had been invented.
And thus now is validated every RGB component ever... Oh come, let us adore the build!!

    Good King RGB went out
    On the feast of LED
When the black cases lay roundabout
    Dull and clean and even

Brightly shone the colours that night
    Though the idea was cruel
when a clever man came in site
    gathering Noctua cooo....ooooo....lers
