Does anyone have any recommendations for free android apps that are educational?
My girls (both 5) are getting tablets for Christmas and i want them to have some apps for learning as well as games.

CBeebies and CBeebies Playtime island are quite good, but may be a bit young for them. Not sure if there are CBBC equivalents?
Only one that ever taught my kids anything useful was:

They would choose a times table, and the program throws questions at them in random order. I let my kids look up the answer if they couldn't remember, chant out loud the "two threes are six" style rhyme, and hopefully next time through they remember more and have to look up less. The game was to see how fast they could get the 12 answers correct.
The local primary only taught up to 10 times table and didn't believe in reciting in full so I have no idea how they expect kids to know their tables as some of the later materials clearly expected to know 11 and 12 times tables. I suspect parents were all doing the same as I was.
5 years old is a bit young for going full pelt with that app, but you can get the two and three times tables up to speed.
My wife downloaded a lego app for my son this week - Lego Juniors Quest. Had a quick look at it this morning, it seems quite good.
Actually, all of the lego apps seem OK. Apart from the Duplo Circus one, that's a dirge.
Andriod doesn't have the best of learning apps, Where as the Apple store has brilliant Quality Apps for learning, The colours, the sounds and just the quality of apps are brilliant & your moneys worth knowing your kids will enjoy learning.
Some Andriod app i've used.
1) Booksy - Story reading starting from 4+ years.
2) Magic Maths
3) Khan Academy has mostly for older kids, but they have 1 or 2 nice videos.
4) Duolingo
5) Lego City
6) MineCraft
7) TocaLife
8) Animal for Kids forest
9) JetPack Joyride - Just a Fun game
My 6y.o. son uses Duolingo to learn French, and he really enjoys it as the app is so colorful and interactive.
For my baby I use fischer price app
Just to add here for other parents, lots that I use with my kids I discovered from my time working in Edtech and my wife being an ex-teacher.
• Kahoot! - Lots of quiz type games to play, for different ages. They can also create their own quizzes to play and is loads of fun. Used a lot around the world, particularly in US classrooms. You can share games over hangouts/zoom with their friends.
• GoNoodle - Physical movement and learning. Perfect for at home kids who might be getting a little restless with all that energy.
• Tynker - Great to help with learning the concepts of coding. My son enjoys this on his Chromebook.
• EasyPeasy - Fun games that help with learning. Lots of the examples use imagination and what's in your environment at home. My son enjoys this.
• Discovery Education - They have a lot of free apps and resources made available during covid. You can find the link from their homepage.
• SparkleBox - Lots of free resources to download and print off that align to the UK curriculum. Take what you and your child find interesting and talk about it in your own way.
