Should I allow my kids to play simulation trading games?
Hello!
Lately I have noticed that my kids (13 and 11 year olds) have started to play simulation trading game on their phones. I, as a parent understand that it is a game, but I am afraid that my kids after playing these games do not think that in real world they will never loose. And the major fear of mine is that the game could influence their further life.
Please share your thoughts, what should I do :)

Hello PINETREES
Welcome to HEXUS. I have removed one of your other posts where you ask about good Crypto Currency trading games, which is is direct conflict with this thread.
I hope you find the information you require from our members

Trading... or gambling?
If these are trading, do you think it would help them develop a career in the stock market?
Surely they'd lose the games sometimes, anyway?
If gambling, why not take their phones and then charge them a certain amount of pocket money or sweeties to rent the phones back for a period, or something? Maybe sit with them and charge them sweeties for every bet they make - Make them pay with something real to them, so they learn that they can lose as much as they win, and either way it will always cost them something?
Personally, my kids would never have phones in the first place. They'd get books, pen & paper, decks of cards, LEGO and/or Meccano and either a Spectrum 48K or a radio cassette player. Anything else like a Gameboy, console or tablet would have to be self-funded from their Saturday job or paper round, when they were old enough to get one.

First up password protect the app store!
Second up how about pwning them at Monopoly? (Plenty of other board games available, we're getting into The Gallerist but that's probably far to heavy for an 11 year old!) Whilst just a game, competitive games do at least teach people that someone's victory comes at the cost of someone else's loss. Though as a younger sibling make sure the games aren't too complicated for the 11 year old and everyone is playing fair - it's nice to win once in a while...

Alternatively, if you want to teach them good business and fiancial sense - Set up as a rival, undercut them and rob them of their wins... then have your wife come along and hit them with back taxes, completely wiping them out and forcing them into administration. I'm guessing the upper bracket corporation tax on sweeties is 25% and on pocket money is 35%....
If you want to be really nasty, have a cousin hit them in parallel with allegations of misconduct, H&S violations and compensation payouts, to boot - They'll have to relocate somewhere without extradition treaties, like the guest bedroom.

This seems severe lol
I would allow trading, but not gambling, and only realistic trading with realistic chance of loss (unlikely). That's supervised, at least at first, to make sure they are not doing something silly disguised as trading.

I'd quote something appropriate by Gordon Gecko, but I've never seen the film...!

I would say trading.
Do you have kids? Because your thoughts about pen, paper and books is a bit utopia. My kids are 11 and 13. Well let's see how long would you handle the bullying of your kid in school because of not having a mobile device.

So I assume your kids are just bullied because they have last years model of Android, instead of the brand spanking new £1000 iPhone, then?
Kids have been "bullied" over not having the latest, greatest, bestest toys/games/clothes/albums/calculator/football boots/bicycle/whatever for decades.
There will ALWAYS be parents richer than you, who shut their kids up by buying them expensive junk that will get lost, broken and stolen, as a substitute for quality parenting.
They don't even need a mobile phone for school, anyway - Every one of the teachers I know (a good score or so, at least) bans them from their classrooms.
Teach them to deal with it, speak to the Head, move them to a better school, or go beat up their dad and help your kid win the age-old playground argument!

I am a teacher and I ban mobile devices in classrooms and lessons too, but there is a life outside the teachers view!
And of course you can have your perfect opinion how to deal with everything, but when you have crying kid at home, it's a different story. But this topic is for other discussion!

No different to any other kid that's had to grow up and learn to be an adult...
If they're that impressionable that a computer game would leave them thinking they won't lose anything in the real world, despite losing to bullies if they don't have a phone, then I'm sorry but better parenting is required. Take it off them and teach them a lesson.
Life existed before smartphones.
Send them outside to play, ride bikes, make things with LEGO™ or something...
