Use PATA drive via serillel on NF7?

I know it gives some cpu savings (or thats what i've read), but are you guys using the serillel device for your pata drives?

The slight downside is you have to load third party drivers on XP install. Are you guys using the sata drivers as supplied on the floppy?

I will only be putting the one drive in BTW.

I have to say that on my NF7-S v1, I didn't find the Serillel connector to be hugely reliable. Often wouldn't find the attached drive on boot. Personally, I wouldn't bother using it again (the drive that wasn't detected is now chuntering happily in another machine and I have an 80GB SATA drive hanging off the NF7-S which works just dandy, thank you), I'd bite the bullet and buy a nice SATA drive instead.

I've just bought this drive though so I don't fancy buying another one!

I have a v2 so maybe I will have more luck, I havent started building yet so I will see how adventurous I feel.

With the sw ide drivers the nforce 2 can outperform the sata adaptor anyway so I wouldn't bother unless you go RAID.

I'm using 2 on Raid 0, never had any problems.
There are newer drivers & a newer BIOS for the controller available than the one on the CD.

I used an 80 GB WD drive yesterday with the convertor, copied 700mb in about 30 seconds, seemed fast to me...
