Very quiet (silent?) non-water CPU cooler required

When I swap out my mobo & cpu assuming I solve my I/O problems, I'll also need a new cpu cooler.

I currently run a P4 3.2HT with a Gigabyte Silent Blue cooler which although an effective cooler is anything but 'silent'.

Noise is absolutely critical in a recording studio.

My case is an Antec TX1050. The case has been 'soundproofed' (silicon gaskets/washers, acoustic foam inserts/ plastic screws etc.)

If I get a AsusP5W series mobo, does anyone know of a C2D 775 compatible cooler which will fit AND be almost inaudible.

My Gigabyte Silent Blue cooler sounds like a jet running afterburners at times.

IF (and I accept it's a big if) the rear 120mm fan lines up with the cpu socket then you may be able to use the Thermalright HR-01 and the 120mm fan duct. This basically turns the rear case fan into the CPU cooler fan using a very large passive 6-heatpipe heatsink.

There's an idea.....the TX1050 [ http://www.antec.com/us/productDetai...?ProdID=61050] has a 92mm duct right over where most CPUs sit [see http://www.antec.com/pdf/drawings/TX...G_Drawing.pdf] on the case side but I am concerned that the height of that heatsink might force me to remove the duct tunnel and thereby the mount for a 92mm fan. I do have an amazingly quiet 92mm in the duct at the moment. I also have an extremely quiet (having replaced the original) 120mm exhaust on the back.....I think that heatsink may be too high to retain the 92mm duct.

I doubt that 92mm fan is contributing much to your overall cooling. Try turning it off and see what happens to your overall temperatures.

Maybe not atm with a 120mm fan on the CPU heatsink but if the cooler was passive then I suspect having a 92mm blowing external air directly over the passive heatsink, it might make a significant contribution. I know that the 80mm I've got blowing at my AsusNE7600GS512TOPSILENT makes a difference to that....

How about the thermaltake sonic tower. It can be run as a passive cooler or has a fan bracket so u can attach a 120mm fan. If you could then buy a super quiet fan u would get urself a pretty powerful quiet cooler.
