    Thanks for the advice.

I had to pick my wife up but tomorrow I will try and re-build out of the case.

I still have a feeling it might be a memory incompatibility problem but I dont know anyone else with any ram I can check... I will be buying some 6400 soon anyway so I might have to get it early and try that.

    no, its this stuff...

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=291363

I'm pretty confident the memory isn't knackered, the chances of both sticks being broken is fairly low. Plus the guy in the local shop took a stick straight out of a working machine and that didnt work either.

Ok, I am sick of this build...

I took it apart and built it outside of the case with bare essentials... exactly the same. (well, I didnt get the beeps but thats just because the internal speaker wasn't hooked up...)

I have taken it round to another local computer shop so they can have a look. At least they will have parts to swap in in case something has been broken all this time.

I think I will just point my dad to the mesh website when he next needs a new PC

I hope my own build is smoother than this...

    Thanks for the help clunk.

I am nearing the end, I can feel it!...

The VGA is dead. I took it to another local PC repair shop and they had another pci-e card to swap in, boots first time.

Contaced scan for the rma, another wait ahead though...

Should have stuck with the first instincts!

Does that mean your Commando's whistling was due to a power supply? Well i'll be damned...

Good luck gettting anything out of Scan, if Clunks experience was anything to go by, it's like getting blood out of a stone for the first couple weeks.

I would have guessed the beeps meant dead RAM. But then i've never head of a VGA being DOA.

    Good luck!

Scan seem pretty decent, I have a RMA number already and am awaiting confirmation of when the courier will come (or, if its city-link, when they say they will come...)

That's all well and good, but they'll probably test it on one of their systems and it'll be "fine".

    Maybe city-link aren't so bad...

I think the communication between scan and city-link is superior to that of ebuyer and city-link.

Scan were able to give a half-day pick up window which ebuyer cant and (this is the big plus) they actually turned up and collected the thing.

City-link are brilliant, i've never had a complaint about them and my dad's been using them for 5+ years for his business.
