Hi I am having trouble on my agp gainward geforce 7800gs card. The device manager has said that the card cannot be starts because there are no resources available for it?
This happened straight after I installed a new sound card (sound blaster xfi oem).
The sound card works fine but the gfx card is not. I tried re installing the driver for the gfx that and doing a restore point but none resolve the problem
Maybe the onboard sound and video need to be disabled first (through the BIOS)?
i disabled it from the bios and it diddnt work
Sounds like an IRQ conflict. Goto device manager and see what settings they have, it should be able to reassign so that the conflict is resolved.
how do i reassign it? i dont see any duplicate IRQ's their at all in the device manager
Dunno if this'll work but it maybe worth a shot
Uninstall Creative drivers move the card to a different pci slot reinstall the drivers. Still could be conflict there somewhere as it is pointing to the soundcard.
thanks for the help so far guys but it still wont work.It might be the gfx card because i tried disabling the soundcard from the device manager and still there is a conflict
update:
i took out the sound card and the graphics onscreen was not displaying at 4bit colour but at 16bit then i updated the bios from my asus ic7 and added the soundcard in and it worked with both the sound and graphics card installed(16bit colour).
at that stage all i had to do was to install the gfx drivers and when i did the pc whent back into 4bit mode.
After another restart it went back into 16bit but the same problem occured on the gfx card saying that it doesnt have any resources LEFT to run it!

I'm not trying to be funny but are you using the extra power plug at the back of the card?
If you arent using the PCI-E connector(yeh i know its AGP) you should do if your PSU has one.
If not...then you must use BOTH molex connectors on the splitter adapter and not just one.

i have done all the steps provided here but it still is not working. i installed the gfx drivers and card and it worked but as soon as i popped in the sound card it diddnt
What are the BIOS settings for resource allocation, is it set to auto or plug and play os, it might also be worth clearing/resetting the current resources allocated, you should be able to do this within the same menu area as the resource allocation.
it is set to auto. i set it to manual and the only options it gives me is weather to reserve a specifi pci port.
can the agp aperture size be the issue? itw as set to 128mb and i tried to set it to 256mb and instead of the gfx card saying it cant start because of lack of resources, it now says it cant start without any reason
quick note: can the problem be that the gfx card is using ALL resources from the other pci cards?
Can you move the sound card into a different PCI slot? Maybe try disabling motherboard devices that you aren't actually using (e.g. extra raid controllers, lan, on board audio, parallel/serial ports etc)
No I don't believe the graphics card can use all the resources. If it did, no other PCI devices (including on board devices like hard disk controllers, usb controllers) would work at all. Basically the computer would not work.
You can see how resources are allocated by going to Device Manager and clicking "view resources by connection" within Windows. Have a look at the IRQ situation, maybe post up a screenshot.

Sounds like an IRQ conflict, this has plagued Soundblaster for some time. I would advise to go to the Creative Forums, there is quite a few posts about things there.
Bare in mind that no Creative Staff will get back to you on there, they are all to lazy.
Have you got ACPI enabled or disabled in the BIOS?
