You want to be a bit careful with the RAM you use on that board..but i'm sure pc6400 will be fine.

They used the freezer.

Search some forums for major problems with 680i boards, its should hopefully put you off buying one for now at least.
-
They're more niggles than problems lol
Mine hasn't really had a problem yet...just the low volts it auto's to can be a pain...but thats why you change them.
-
Thats the thing though, if they dont get sorted, they are problems. Its a lot of money for a board that doesnt run right :)
-
The current bios seems to run a lot better. If they sort of the auto volts it would be great. 1.85v is taking the piss for most of the RAM these boards are going to see..
And it sets my FSB too high.
Apart from that its clocking great...and generally very stable.
-
I didnt know about the voltage thing, so is that 1.85v the absolute maximum that it can give the ram? Or is that what it shows and it gives more?
-
No thats just what it will default to.
It goes up to 2.8 or 2.9 i think. Im not on it at the moment so cant tell you.
I certainly wont be testing that kind of voltage on my current ram lol
Best thing about it is the unlinked overclocking..good for peace of mind.
-
Pretty much all boards have 1.8v default for ddr2, so nothing to worry about there, unless you have ram that needs 2.1v or something large on startup :)
-
mine needs 1.9 minimum..crashes as soon as you hit windows otherwise
-
I mean on first startup, some ram wont even let you boot, you have to use another stick of ram and go and change the vdimm before changing the ram back.
-
thx for replies but does anyone know whether the Arctic Freezer Pro 7 is compatible with ASUS Striker Extreme.
