Asus PB5 comes in various guises

    Basic one is about £80
then theres a delux..and delux wifi etc..
    Good boards none the less.

If you want an SLI board..I'd go with what i have the EVGA 680i..huge warranty and a great overclocker.

Graphics...640mb 8800 GTS i'd have at the moment..but if it doesn't come until may...why dont you wait on all of this stuff.

The new core 2 duo family will be out soon..

as will the next batch of nvidia dx10 cards...8300, 8600, 8900 etc..

For right now thats a great spec but in 3 months...

I would think of upping the PSU if you go for one of the more beefier DX10 cards.

I recently had to upgrade from a 580w due to power issues that started a little after installing my GTX.

Ok just had a read...doesn't look like penryns are coming until net year now anyway so go ahead with the conroe lol.

They will basically have faster switching speeds..more power efficient and roll out with faster stock speeds..

If you dont want to SLi then the PB5 is the way to go.

Cheapest DX10 card at the moment is the geforce 8800 gts 320mb and its £176 on today only on scan for the neeext 12 minutes lol

but they are around £180 anyway.

But as i say if its not gaming performance you're looking for the 8300 and 8600's will be out soon enough im sure.

The 520W Corasir is plenty if there is no Crossfire/SLi.
You may have upgraded your 580W PSU but i can almost guarantee that it wasn't as good as the Corsair units.

    Thanks for your help guys,

I was woundering aswell do you think that the ram is overkill or not? do u think id be better withou dominator stuff?

Im definatly not paying £180 for graphics i dnt use it enough! I was thinking £100 max for graphics!

Plus do you think i gain anything significant from thee e6600 over the e6300?

Ive just noticed that its for may...you should wait til nearer the time really, there are loads of new products coming out and there are some that havent been out long, that might have matured a bit by then and become great in their own right.

As of now though, I like the P5B deluxe wifi.

I think the dominator ram is overkill for you. You could save a shedload on that, and still have pc2-6400 ram.

Corasir PSU is fine, although with what you save on the ram, you might want to grab the 620w if you are going with an 8800gtx or similar.

Raptor is great if you are deaf.

I notice you havent listed a cooler for the cpu. You will need this for overclocking, the stock intel ones are rubbish. Have a look at the big scythe ones if they will fit in your case.

i dnt planning on overclocking straight aways so will leave it stock for a bit!

As for RAM wot do u recommend, id like to stay wi corsair, have used them for a long time, never had a problem!

I wnt be going as high as the 8800gtx dnt need the power, however woulnt mind a HDMI link!

I realise its very early but im just get an idea wot would be a nice system now and then in may, if that makes sense!

Afterall i am a broke student!

Agreed. Im not saying that this thread is pointless, but there is little point in pricing things up now - things change very quickly in the computer world.

I'd consider starting this thread again when you are about 2 weeks from buying.

What do people think of the Gigabyte DS3 now that the BIOS has matured? The DS3 is very nicely priced right now and on Scan at about £72 and I hear a lot of good about it.

Clunk has a point about waiting. I hear the mid range 8000 series NVidia cards are being released early March and the 8600 GT should be much closer to your budget. Intel are also cutting prices during Q2 2007 I think so you may get lucky there.

I'm defiantly gonna wait having found out what i have today about different components, so i'm sorry if some of you feel i have wasted your time!

Im just trying to get ideas so i cn watch the market over the coming months and get the most bang for my buk, when i do take the plunge!

As for the gigabyte DS3 mate i have heard good stuff to although from what i understand asus are spose to have the edge in the market at the minute! (feel free to correct me everyone)
