What on earth is going on here?

MS must be pushing Vista harder than anything else ever.

When XP came out, you could still get Win2K in their pre built systems for months if not longer. Now though it will only let you have Vista Business or Ultimate.

This is a bit of a problem. I don't want to have a Vista systems in the office for a good while. Same goes for Office 2007, that just leads to compatability and usability nightmares.

Despite getting a Dell a few months ago, it looks like i might have to go for another vendor now.

You can get XP...just call them and ask...or order via Small Business rather than Home

Get business and use your right to downgrade (they give you an XP Pro CD key to use)

There will be no problem with you getting a system with windows Xp, as they still offer it on all thier systems, as well as no OS at all, if you so require it!

The uptake for buisnesses on Vista is very low, due to the uncertainty/unreliability issues that may arrive from Vista. They would be mad to only offer Vista.

interesting. I was specing out a system through the Small business pages, there was no mention of being able to use XP.

The other stumbling block is Office. They only list 2007, and there is no way i'm going to touch that for here either. Can i do the same thing and buy SBE 2007 and use 2003 instead?

its right at the start...asks you whether you want xp or vista.

but anyway you can have xp its not a problem.

That option is only there for some systems. The majority list them as Vista only.

Desktops -> Small Business -> Dimension -> Basic Productivity

Only the E520 is listed with XP as an option.

Office 2007 only however

I called them a few weeks back and they assured me that everything is avaliable with xp if you want it.

Thats through a dell contact though not sure about usual cutomer services.
