    Overclocking E6600

'My System' shows my, as yet, unbuilt new rig.

I'm aiming for 3.6GHz with my Freezer 7 Pro.

I'm also a first time overclocker, who hopes he hasn't bitten off more than he can chew!

If any of you experts would like to suggest some settings to kick off with, I'd be more than grateful.

    FSB, vCore, memory timings etc??

I'll report back all my results here.

Build it up and get it all stable at stock speeds first.

Grab orthos and run it overnight, if it passes that, you can get cracking.

3.6ghz is quite optimistic for everyday use on air cooling, unless you get a really good chip. Aim a bit lower, say 3ghz for starters and build up slowly.

I built up gradually to a stable 3.4

do not go for 3.6 straight away!

as clunk says run orthos on it...i dont think you need to do more than a couple of hours...never seen a point to much more on stock system.

    vCore around 1.42 @ 3.4Ghz unlinked
    fsb @ 1.2v

    Thanks for the tips people........

    Temperatures?

I will see the temperatures reported at stock, but as I begin to o/c, at what point should the load temp start to worry me?

There seems to a whole host of different figures quoted out there......

    after improved airflow:

    24*C idle
    37*C load

stock with just the freezers fan and extractor 120mm:

    34 idle
    45 load

    Clocked to 3.4 @ 1.41v

    36 idle
    48 load (orthos' evil test)

    anything under 60 is kool.

eBuyer have let me down with my X1950XT which won't be with me till next week earliest.

So, more delay, as this is my first pciE card.......

I'm really going to reconsider the websites I use, coz this isn't the first time eBuyer have let me down.....'in stock' at time of ordering.....magically, out of stock, as soon as you order.

I have the 6600 conroe with wc cooling you can easily get 3.8 out of it As I did infact with a decent radiator on wc likethe thermochill pa 120.2 to 120.3 you can get 4 to 4.2 gigs out of it.

    eBuyer update.....

Following my snippy remarks above, I feel it only fair to mention the following.

I rang eBuyer meaning to cancel the order, but after about 7 mins in a Q on my mobile, I rang off without speaking to anybody.

To my astonishment, a couple of hours later eBuyer rang me back on my mobile....this was a first for me with any Etailer.

I was so taken with this small act, I left the order with them, despite no firm delivery promise other than 'next week if all goes well'.

Tonight, I received an email from them saying the card has been shipped!!

Then, back on the Dark Side.......the memory supplier (not eBuyer), now tells me my Bank has not authorized payment for reasons best known to themselves, but unknown to me.

I'll get this machine built yet..........

Did they say they rang you because call them or because they wanted to up date you about your order?

I've got my E6600 at 3.6GHz with the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro using the following settings:

    vCore: 1.40v
    vMCH: 1.55v

This is on an ABit AW9D, but my temps are a bit high:

    41C idle, 66C load.

    Good luck
