    DVD Media

What DVD media in general do you guys use and why?

    I'll start the ball rolling with my favourites so far ;

Single Layer - Anything really for back-up and transporting mp3's and large digital images as long as they are Ritek dye.

Double Layer - I've tried a few cheap and expensive brands but at the moment I've found the memorex ones to be the most stable with my equipment.

So... go on list your favourite discs and we'll see if theres a pattern forming

Double Layer is memorex without question...we get them for work as they are ever reliable.

Single Layer normally get Imation as they are cheap and generally very reliable.

For single side DVD-R I use white-top Infinity. Worked fine for most of last year, and I distributed our Christmas panto DVD on them. The only coasters I ended up with were from a faulty old NEC drive. Will wait and see how reliable they are in the long-term, but no complaints at all so far.

Just about to start getting into the dual-layer side, so I'll wait and see some recommendations on that one myself.

Dual Layer - definitely Verbatim, works brilliantly with Pioneer DVR111BK burner.

Now this is what I like to hear. Think I'll be sticking with these from now on as I had a little mishap with a disc, well actually I stood on it and you could see the shoemarks all over it before burning.

A quick wipe with a cloth and it burnt fine and it had no issues at all

Single layer: Verbatim, usually white top printable

Dual layer: only ever bought one pack and havent' used any. My laptop is only single layer writable. HTPC has a Pioneer 110, but there is not writing software on that

I use Verbatim for everyday use single and dual layer. For lightscribe I have more consistent results with the HP media than the Verbatim but we're talking only about the surface finish. Also, Ritek G05 dye if I can't get hold of Verbatim as the printable surface discs are 100% reliable.

I use Samsung SH-S182m/BEBN and HP DVD940i for Lightscribe (I had the earlier HP drives die on me after about 30 burns) and I use a Pioneer A09 for everything else.

I use Memorex DVD-R and I also use their DVD-RW. Having said that though, in the past I have used anything thats cheap and I haven't noticed anything different. They read/write just the same as any other media.

I have a fairly old burner now (a Pioneer A07) but the only media I have now are those produced by Taiyo Yuden or Mitsubishi Chemicals Corporation. The former is normally branded under the Plextor, Panasonic or Verbatim (the 'pastel' range) name whilst the latter is mainly branded under the Verbatim name.

Why do I buy these? Because they have high compatibility, are reliable and of high quality - they generally have a very low error rate (PI and PIF) when burnt.

Single Layer - Class 2 media, usually PRODISCF01 because it's cheap (around 5-6 quid for 50 discs) and I get good results (low PI and PIF) and can burn at 12x using my NEC 3500AG

Dual Layer - Verbatim or Ridisc on the cheap.

I used to use RITEKG05 disks for single layer burns but I've heard they have degradation issues.

As I understand it, anything from Taiyo Yuden is meant to be very reliable, according to reviews I've read. This page lists some discs manufactured by Taiyo Yuden:
