Should I upgrade my monitor?

At the moment I have a 17" Sony Widescreen Monitor/TV that's really classy. I'm thinking of getting a 2007wfp from Dell for about £230, do you guys think it's worth it? Will I feel a massive difference? Thanks

pretty much up to your preferences. if you think 17" is bih enough and your pleased with the picture then no

however your here asking so i presume you dont.

if your mainly using it for graphics design or picture quality is paramount then the dell would be a great upgrade.

however if your mainly a gamer / dvd watcher its worth sacrificing a little on the quality side and getting a 22" TFT. £230 will still be plenty as the Fujitsu Siemens im using is 210 from dabs last time i checked.

if you sit close to the screen then idk the lcd's are meant for sitting far. crts have better picture quality and lighting. i'd say stick with the crt and wait till the new SED screens come out.

Stick with CRT if you have a spare 4foot on your desk....
Realistacally, though. Not much point unless it's an impulse buy.

Is the Sony a CRT then?

Erm, the 2007 is a good screen, Kemp ended up with one, he found it to be the best 20" screen around the £200 mark.

Uh nope, it's a TFT with a built in TV tuner and HDTV support. It's really great, don't get me wrong, but the 1280x768 res is not that good for web pages/dissertations/spreadsheets and things. I would get another one but my silly parents went and spent £400 on it and i can't really deal with spending that myself! I just wondered what you guys thought of the amount spent:increase in number of pixels ratio...

Well, i have a HannsG 19" widescreen and i have to say, it's really quite nice for the price. £120 for a TFT ain't bad.
If you're happy with that screen, keep it, otherwise get a HannsG and use it as a second screen for web viewing, etc.

Me too...i got it from Amazon on Tuesday.
Beautiful monitor and also hass DVI...all for £111 delivered. (now £138)

I got mine at a computer fair. The price ranges from £110-130 it seems. If you can only find one for £130, get the Asus 19" equivilant instead.
And remember to turn up to brightness on the screens menu options, its default is about 87%.

I've got the hanns g at 1440 x 900.

I'm getting a 22" at 1680 x 1050 soon, as I want a bit more screen real estate. Then when I've got enough cash, will get a second. Probably don't need it, but just want the pixels, as at the moment I'm cramming (horizontally), mozilla firefox, msn messenger, download manager / vista sidebar onto the screen, and I think the browser is just ok at about 800 pixels wide, but i can only have one convo going at once really without having to put them on top of each other. And I hate doing that.

Definately a second monitor in september though (my birthday) .

I'd say the hanns g is lovely for doing one thing though, you'd have plenty of space. I normally have lots of windows open at once though, and it gets a pain. The windows key and tab isn't that good, because you still have to press the keys to see what's going on, rather than just glancing whilst you type.

Whatever you get, keep your old monitor and use both. Dual screens are really underrated, once you get used to the extra screen space it's fantastic. Of course this depends on whether you have the room to use both, I suggest you find some!

And yes, going from 1280x768 to 1680x1050 will be a huge difference. Bear in mind a lot of web pages are designed for 1024 wide, and so won't take up a full screen on either anyway...

I went from 1280x1024 to 1680x1050 and I can't get used to using my 17" Screen at home, let alone the 15" on the Parent's dell...
