X-fi card not found

I put in my X-fi extreme music card at chrismtas and up until yesterday everything was fine. Already installed were: SoundMAX and Creative SB Live 5.1 drivers since that was the card I had before.

Last night I was just looking through add/remove programs seeing if there was anything I could remove, and thought since I no longer use my SB live card I can uninstall it. Also thought the SoundMAX thing was for the onboard soundcard so uninstalled that too. Now I have no sound! Went in control panel to check and it said no sound card was found, so I installed SoundMAX again and it found a card (assume it's the onboard) but on the Sound/Audio Devices, my X-fi isn't listed anymore

The software for the X-fi is still installed, didn't touch that, so what's wrong, what do I need? I guess maybe drivers for the X-fi? But on creatives' site I can't find them :/

Any help appreciated!

1) remove the X-FI (and disable the onboard in the BIOS if you wish, though they'll happily co-exist)
2) uninstall all Creative software (and the Soundmax if you chose not to use it)
3) reinsert the X-FI
4) reinstall the drivers

Sometimes just reseating the card can do it (wouldn't be the first Creative card to be fussy over a snugly fit), but might as well go the full whack, as it sounds like the Live 5.1 drivers being removed triggered it all.

Same thing happened to me, it drove me mental.

You have to pretend to be an American to get decent support (like everything else), I can't believe how poorly maintained Creatives support site is... But then so is their drivers, so it shouldn't surprise me.

yah Ive had that problem before, if you can try putting a couple extra risers near where it slots in, i found that helped

Hehe, nice to see someone else post this, though I was going mad recently...

It seems my X-Fi has started wiggling its way out of the slot occasionally, VERY annoying and can cause a crash followed by the PC not posting again until you wiggle it...

Had mine for a month switched to my new mobo and died in a week. In Creatives defense though, I contaced tech support got the usual install reinstall blah blah. Convinced them it was dead as a dodo, got an RMA sent on a tuesday and the replacement arrived Friday.
So the drivers maybe bad and the web support in Europe not much cop, when I needed a replacement however it was done very very efficiently.
