quietest hard drive out there

Another vote for the Spinpoint T although the older Samsungs I've tried 2 out of the 3 weren't as quiet as I wanted.

The newer Seagates are noisy I believe.

The Western Digital xxxxKS 250 I bought was quiet.

Have you checked which motors they have? I'm guessing the noisier ones are JVC and the quiet one is a nidec. There is a stamp on the bottom of the drive indicating which it is.

The 80GB ones were both Nidec. The quiet one I'm still using.

The 250GB didn't have seek noise. It was just some other noise coming from it that annoyed me. I just sold it and can't remember if I checked what the motor was.

P120s are good although the seek noise is less than ideal for a quiet drive.

The new Samsung T series drives are much better although apparently the new WD Caviar SE16 400 and 500gb are a little quieter. It seems that if you are a have a lot of seeking ie games, downloading then go for the WD, if you don't than go for the Samsung.
