from memory, yep as your soundcard is decoding the signals for the speakers etc.. blah blah blah...

you can have speakers with THQ certified etc.. but your speakers will still play it... you would want 5.1 though for all these fancy things ^^ .

Logitech SUCK do not buy them, they have a dreadful frequency range. The midranges will be non exsistant and the bass will be boomy and far too dominating.

Cant say much for the abits but they seem expensive and look tacky

The 5021 are really good and definately the ones to get, especially for the price

The 6021 are good but do you not think its strange the 50s got THX cert and the 60s didnt? they may have an excelent high end response (beyond what is actually audiable) but they sacrificed the midrange sound for the daft fancy design

    GO FOR OPTION 3

Option 3 has a lower SNR and a smaller frequency range though?

I was just proving Biscuit wrong

Or at least, I thought I was.

Turns out op 3 has goes 5hz lower than the logitechs.

However, the SNR is dreadful at best.

I have to say, thankyou so much everybody for your time and help!!

But I fear it all may go to waste as I may have just decided on going surround sound (5.1).

What do you guys think on my choice of 2.1 speakers? Also, what do you think of surround sound over 2.1? I may go with the Creative Progamer G500 speakers if I go with surround.

Apparently 5.1 is nice if you get it working, which you can in most things, but not everything works with it - it's an addition thing that isn't always supported all that well.

Personally while I seem to be quite happy to burn money on graphics cards that go out of date, I can't justify spending so much on computer speakers that last much longer IMHO games don't output decent quality sound anyway - I'm happy with the mx5020's I got for 15 quid

logitech and creative all out LIE. look at the size of the satellites there is no way that the tiny little woofers can handle the lower mid frequncies therefore the job is down to the sub which sounds aweful.

On paper i may be wrong but in practice i can assure you im right

Sorry to get worked up i just HATE crap speakers

It's good to hear passionate views, no need for apologies.

I was getting really confused about speakers, and this thread made me even more so (), so I decided to speak to the guy at Scan who is helping me order the system. He said, basically, to be able to hear such subtle differences would be phenomanal. From my memories in early physics lessons on sound, I would have to agree with him.

I think I've decided now, definetly logitechs (sorry Biscuit ) for 2.1, and those creative speakers are looking like my favourite choice for 5.1.

BTW, my PC would have an overall wattage of about 620W max. The monitor (Dell E228WFP) I think will be no more than 100W, so that's about 720W, and these speakers (5.1 ones) are 310 at max, so that's 1130W altogether, which is beyond insane. Would it be safe for me to plug this lot, with everything at max, into one power point (using an adaptor/surge protector)?

    Thanks!!!!

Yeah true. That will put a strain on the system if you boil 100 kettles at once..
