Speakers final decision

they seem to be a good price but was wondering if anyone here has them?
also are these better http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=480679, I know they have digital inputs, is that it?

whats wrong with the Logitech Z2300 (2.1 version) or the Z5500's (5.1's) ? they certainly are some ofthe best speakers i have tried... well the only ones have tried for that matter

I don't know the ones you are interested in but I am quite impressed by the quality of the logitech for the price. Also, for a small budget (half the price), the creative solution is also acceptable.

Heard good things about the Abits although its worth checking out some of the Logitech 5.1's.

Its just that it is the cheapest decent sound system with dts/THX which is meant to be better for games. I would get the Creative i-Trigue 5600 5.1 but it does not have DTS/THX.

The i-trigues are not very nice IMO, the Logitechs have a much richer sound.

and the creative gigaworks have a better sound than the logitechs

Personally i find all Logitech and Creative speakers to be very substandard if good quality sound is importaint to you. Their bass is usually very boomy and distorts the midrange and the high end is too dominating, again ruining the mid range. All my friends who study music say the same thing.
The altec lansing speakers are excelent. The thing you want to look at is the frequency range the wider the better. The range on the altec lansing ones is far better than any offerings from logitech or creative (apart from the very high end ones which are very similar)

I would honestly stick with the altec lansing ones, they not only offer better sound but the connections between the speakers is well thought out and well designed. The only thing i would mention is that the sub is about the same size as your PC so make sure u have space for it

Well if you want a good speakers/excellent speakers blah blah blah... you dont buy computer speakers ... Also it depends on what you want to do with them, what you like in your sound, what music you listen to etc...

anyway, also depends what set up and amount of speakers.

Then theres EAX things ^^ and yes of course the frequency range... for me i like a deeper sound, sound alittle more in the bass is my choice (i dont mean drum and bass music) my friend likes more treble so he has different speakers.

i like to hear the drums alot/percussion and so the bass gives it more impact.

well I just decent sound basically for my pc
I play games and watch lots of films so I would like the THX thing enabled just to give better sound, and so I can here stuff better in games (I don't really have enough room for 5.1 if I am sensible). And I don't want to spend a over £100 tbh.

I'm in the same boat. I'm looking for some decent speakers (sub £100 and 2.1 setup for space reasons) to replace the ones that have just died on me - well the sub unit anyway.

I'm not overly keen on Creative and the comments on the logitech were generally along the lines of 'very loud, boomy sub' (that will shake the house lol) and on some there's mention of interference that can be heard through the speakers.

So I think I'm going with these:

They look ok and 'what hi-fi' is usually pretty reliable. As with most really small solutions, the satellites are only 1 way which will inevitably lose quite a bit of high or mid frequency.

Look on richer sounds and buy seperates im sure you cud get a decent systems for under 100

All the altecs I have used and owned have been excellent. They are primarilly a speaker maker specialising in professional installs, rather than a general electronics manufacturer. They often come up on ebay cheap due to being too heavy to post, my current 5.1 system cost £15.

I've got the Logitech Z5500. I know, the're 200 quid, but they're exellent.
