Replacement Mobo & memory=

Well my DS4 is going back as it turns out to be a rev 1.0 and sometimes wont start up. (just reboots and reboots until you pull the plug)

I cant get a guarantee of a v2 or v3 from the supplier so am going to look at something else.

I am also RMAing my OCZ RAM as it could also be guilty by association

So my question is can I get some advice regarding what to replace it with and some memory to go in it which will definately work. As memory has come down in price I have about £270 to play with for both.

Saw the GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) at £115.14 which comes recommended.

I also thought about the P5B Wifi but seems pretty long in the tooth now and thought I might look at a 680 ?

What do you think ?

PS - can I do anything to get the Noctua NH-U12 to be monitored by the BIOS ? Has only a 3 pin fan but seems daft it doesnt have a 4 pin fan like my old Arctic Cooler 64

I've got that RAM and can't complain for the price really.... apart from when adding the last 2GB it completely killed my system somehow and had to re-install XP. But the original 2GB worked fine from the outset and runs happily at 4-4-4-12 at 2.1v. The place you are thinking of buying it from got it here in 2 days which is far faster than Scan, although their returns policy seems a bit dodgy..... 30 days for a refund!?! Ha!

yeah im not really happy with the returns from OCUK. Dont really want to use them but their price on the memory's really good.

Yeah that was my dilemma.... £25 more in microdirect..... hmmm. Are you just after some solid PC6400 cas4, or do you want some that OC's well?

Also, what do you think of your PSU? I've ordered the same one and can't wait til it arrives on Friday....

PSU is excellent, the cables are particularly good. Only just fits in my case, though, as the back cover obscures the plug socket a bit.
I want some RAM that OCs a bit but mainly just want something stable as I cant be arsed with being without a PC for weeks whilst things are RMA'd

Just not sure if all the original issues with the board are now fixed. Maybe I should just get the P5B Wifi ?

Don't really know much about that board apart from that it allows good overclocks. P5B deluxe is excellent though and £50 cheaper.

As for the RAM I really don't know if it's worth the money you'll save for the potential hassle. There are loads of PC6400 cas 4 kits for around £150, crucial ballistix, corsair xms, g skill 4-4-3-5. I'm sure all will be fine... some overclock more than others, but I've never found much reason to OC my memory that much anyway. You planning to OC the E6400? If so how far?

I was gobsmacked by the shortage of fans that will fit the 4pin header. the only company that seems to make thaem is arctic cooling Fan for Intel 4Pin CPU Fan Header but haven't found a uk stockist.

No more than any 965 board that has gone before ...
There's a beta BIOS that resolves most things leaving only a few v. minor niggles - mostly if you have a quad core.

Does anyone know the difference between the Asus P5b Deluxe WiFi and the P5W DH Deluxe WiFi ?

P5W dh is a 975 chipset. I had one of those and wasnt very impressed, I mean, it was ok, but nothing special. It's one of those boards that comes with an absolute shedload of extras, most of which are useless cheap rubbish.

from a reliability perspective is it the same as the 965 version then really ? Its just scan have no stock of the 965 one but the 974 is available.

What do you mean by cheap rubbish stuff ? I dont mind about the cables, have all that already
