i agree with chuckskull. that will be nothing more sinister than a driver problem.

You're wrong there. it varies by test, but in this case vista runs a simple piece of code through the GPU a few times then works the score from that(I presume from the time taken to complete). Very similar to the way coolbits tests an overclock.

Also, no matter how much you overclocked a processor/GPU it would still score the same if you were right.

Explain how an 8800 can get a 1, but still run most games at a decent level...

I haven't noticed an increase in my index score when i overclocked. (that could be due to my fairly small overclock)

Because running the benchmark is different to running the game, to over simplify it massively. I can only assume the benchmark code isn't optimised/ready for, the G80 core. Where as DirectX is.

Try using the new Beta drivers, 101.41. You might get a little further.

Also if this is the case, you could overclock your 8800 to insane levels and you'll still get 1.

    It's not my card... I wouldn't buy an 8800! Don't be ridiculous!

I suppose that would be the case, but doesn't aero use a version of DirectX anyway?

I just think that the WEI system is flawed in terms of actually showing you a credable benchmark. Results will vary too much dependant on too many factors.

Yes it does, which is why Aero works and the benchmark doesn't.

EDIT: Just to illustrate a point. Same system, but E4300@2.4ghz and RAM at 800mhz 4-4-4-12

I am not sure about the 8800GTS, but with a 8800GTX, pushing my overclock most certainly makes a difference in framerates.

Recently been clocked back down to 2.4GHz and boy, am I feeling it

Seeing as the 8800 doesn't run well in vista, so its DX10 is completely out of question, Some of the X1950 cards can give it a run for its money.

We aren't obsessed with it, I was merely trying to disprove its credability.

The 6200 turbocache is the best on the market for slicing cheesecake and apple pie. Fact.

The 8800 are better for gateaux, and the new ATI cards are rumoured to have a trifle scoop.

Erm no they can't. The 8800GTX obliterates anything on the market, hell the GTS beats a X1950XTX in a lot of cases.

Not really... I've seen alot of X1950's holding up against the 8800's, especially in vista (the so called "home" of the 8800's lying in DX10).
I'm convinced that the 8800 would smash most of the competition AT THIS CURRENT TIME provided the drivers didn't suck like a hoover, but until this time, realistically, it's not the best card on the market in my eyes.

But as my post said "debatably one of the best cards".

Well, I went from an X1950XTX CROSSFIRE setup to a single 8800GTX and the difference in performance is phenomenal.

An example if WoW, where I went from 40-50FPS @ 1920x1200 to 60fps @ 2560x1600, all other hardware and settings the same.

Not sure how anyones 1950 holds up at all, unless the game in question was designed to not run on nVidia hardware.
