    Best air cooler

For my new E6600. Going to push it a little, but not radically, Abit Quad GT mobo.
Was looking at Acrctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, Scythe Miné, or maybe the Noctua NH-U12F...

Well the best I've seen around and have heard about are Thermaltake Big Typhoons.

They're fairly quiet with the stock fan, but you might be able to get a better 120mm fan.

Although they are massive and might not fit in your case etc.

The best is probably either the Thermalright Ultra 120 or Scythe ninja.

Either will run a C2D passive or with a fan allow great overclocks.

Tuniq Tower, Ultra 120 and the Zalman 9700 seem to be topping most reviews right now.

If you're not going to push it too hard, then the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro should be fine. It's not quite as good as the higher-end ones, but for about £15, it's amazing value for money.

    take a read here:

reviewer even states it slays his XP-90, if that puts it in perspective.

Christ, would that fit on most motherboards? I can see the Northbridge heatsinks getting in the way, seeing as some motherboards don't even fit properly with comparatively small coolers.

Anandtech have done a load of reviews on CPU air coolers recently, you might want to check them out.

    http://www.anandtech.com/casecooling/

It is not a group test, just a series of separate reviews, but the graphs at the end of each review include the numbers for all the others. Also some of the coolers mentioned might not be available in the UK.

Their review of the Monsoon II Lite with Thermal Electric Cooling looks especially interesting, though it is expensive.

Looking at that it should have no problem running passive on most C2D's. Even just a couple of nexus at 5v will outperform most coolers. Seriously tempted.
