Hmm seems to be some issues with the NEC 7170S
    See here
    http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=202370

    http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=212408

It seems mobo compatability may be an issue so might be a bit of a risk, but that is purely based on the above.

Have a look though the CD Freaks forum and you can see what issues or good things are about the burners you are looking at.

    Good luck in your choice.

I agree. I have the previous model liteon burner (also sata) and I get excellent quality burns with good media. Great scanning drive as well.

And I've heard good things about the Samsung.

I have been pleasantly surprised with the Samsung, the last 2 burners Ive had, have been NEC PATA ones.

So its just purely for labeling purposes, I never label my DVD's anyway so don't think there is much point in me investing in it.

So far looks like the Samsung is the popular choice!

The Samsung came out top in a recent review I read od DVD burners in a mag, I've always been an NEC man myself but have been looking at the Samsung SATA as a replacement for 1 of my burners.

Not sure if the compatibility issue that DratUK mentioned affects me and I don't really want to chance it, as most are mentioning the Samsung as a good purchase then I think I will go for this one! Thanks for the input guys appreciate it

Bought the Lite On recently and got no complaints. When it spins at full whack I wonder if my PC is about to take off! Faultless operation so far though.
