loking for a suggestion for professional quality dvd burner

hi there all - ok, by professional i mean one that i can use with confidence if i need to burn video dvds for clients, the burns have to be as good and compatible as possible with my professional reputation at stake.
i have bought a new laptop to edit videos on and after burning several dvds on verbatim discs which i thought are a good brand i discovered that all skipped on my standalone player.... googeling reveals that the burner in my laptop is particularly awful (philips sdvd8820) and after reading some more i realised that it is a mine field out there and most of the recomended drive on sites such as cdfreaks are out of productions and cant be bought easily....
so looking for suggestions for a solid drive with reliable results (game coping and speed not important)
    cheers
    michel

I'd suggest Plextor drives. Very good quality.

There was a rumour a few weeks back that they were pulling out of the Optical Disk Drive market. This is not true, they are just concentrating more of profesional products as opposed to regular DVD writers etc.

The drives also some with software to check the quality of the disk etc.

At home I use NEC..great writers IMO.

At work (we build Industrial PC's) we use LG writers which prove very reliable and good quality.

I remember reading in PCFormat that all blank media was tested on Pioneer drives so compatibility should be second to none. Not sure how true that is, but I've owned a few Pioneer DVD-RW and never had a problem with even the cheapest of cheap disks.

Plextor may not be the fastest, but they are high quality, if a burn fails 99.9% of the time it's because of a bad disc.

I've had many Plextor drives for personal and professional use, and I'd recommend them to anyone. Especially the higher end ones.

Another vote for Plextor here. Try to get hold of a PX-760, you won't be disappointed.

If you can't get hold of a plextor drive, this liteon drive is a good drive for burning DVD's.

It's also very good for doing disc quality scans in Nero Speed. You'll be able to have a play with different media and find which one gives you the best results (least PIF/PIE errors).

media is more likely to be the problem than the drive, in my experience

Same, I tend to check the disk against the image after burning for important stuff.

There are few easy ways to ensure the best burn integrity:

1: Buy a reputable branded burner
2: Buy good quality media, not bulk cheapo rubbish (I use HP lightscribe DVDs)
3: Burn at a slow speed if you want more piece of mind.

I burn at 4x occasionally if Im sending out DVDs/CDs to people, just to ensure its right first time.
