PC Audio Solution

I saw a thread below about which speakers to get.This got me thinking about my own audio setup.

I have a pair of logitec x-230 there not bad but I was thinking about getting something better.

I was going to get a X-Fi sound card and some thx 2.1 speakers but now I'm not so sure.

Should I get a and amp and some Hi-Fi speakers instead? Is it worth getting the sound card or spend the extra money on a decent amp? System I use my pc for Games, TV and Movies. Budget around £100

To be honest whatever you do you will want a decent soundcard.

Fireing audio out of the onboard on most boards into an amp is all well and good but the onboard sound is normally quite bad compared to a decent soundcard.

Having £100 to spend on bits says to me really that you should go for a soundcard and 2.1 speakers.

Get the X-fi soundcard!! I have it plugged into an old Nad C320 Amp with Tannoy speakers.

X-fi's are good stuff. The front panel is pretty much usesell to most people, so just get the PCI sound card.

Some 2.1's would do you alright, or headphones?

I had the money to burn 6 months ago, went for the Audigy ZS 2 Platinum, because it was the cheapest Creative card with a front bay break-out box, it is amazing, brilliant quality through my aging Creative 4.1 system.

Now though you cannot get my sound parts, so I'd have to say get the XFi, as the breakout box really is not needed. Due to the fact my card only has 3.5mm jack outputs I think the box is handy if I want to record from any phono source (means I don't have to dig out a phono - 3.5mm).

But deffinatly get a lower end XFi, so you can spend large amounts on the speakers.

Oh don't get me wrong, i use my front panel, but i produce and mix music. Most people don't.

Dont bother with computer speakers definately get and amp and seperate speakers. Yes it is more expensive but the money will be heard

i have X-FI and i quite like it but i hear a lot of people complaining about it. I was told this is the one to go for:

If you cant afford that you could go for the non-pro and cheaper m-audio ones they have in scan.

I must say, my X-fi can crackle in some high-bit sounds. Apparently this is due to the crappy caps they used on the board.

mine used to but since i got my new speakers it doesnt do it anymore. wierd
