Just wondering if it would be worth upgrading?
e6300 at stock would beat the opty, so once overclocking is brought into the equation, it'll be a fair bit faster
core 2 will wipe the floor without a question
Whether its worth upgrading is such a difficult question, yes there will be performance benefits but whether it is actually worth it is another issue. If you can afford it and have the time to do so then upgrading is worth it. However I doubt you are having too many problems running things with your current spec so it might not be worth the hassle. Might be worth hanging on a bit for the next batch of processors that will be even faster.
Depends what your doing with the machine, both will be plenty fast enuf for 98% of uses.
The Core2Duo by a mile, but bear in mind that you'd need a new processor, RAM, and quite possibly a new graphics card (if you're currently on AGP) as well to go with it.
yeah, what benchmarks are u using? Im sure running superpi on both would give better results on the conroe. (its cos hes only got 4gib of ram, if he had a few gigs it might work)
Is it faster if there is only 2gb in the E6400 system?
Whats all this the Core2 Duo will wipe the floor with it?
At Core2 stock speed Vs the 2.65GHz opty, the Opty will be (ever so slightly) faster.
Once overclocked the Core2 will be a bit faster. It will not wipe the floor with it unless you count just about double digit percentage performance increases as wiping the floor with it
Unless CPU power is very important to you for reasons not mentioned here, I wouldn't waste the money, but then again thats coming from someone thats going to wait until Bearlake and DDR3 1333 before upgrading his Athlon64 3000+

Thanks for all the replies. I mainly play games (supreme commander even thought it's SO boring, C+C 3 when it's out, FEAR, STALKER when that's out, etc). I do bits of vid encoding too.
I'd need a new mobo and ram to go with it, but with the price of DDRII ram being what it is, that isn't such a big problem.
It's my RAM that's making my vista performance rating only 4.5. My CPU preformance rating is 5.1
Is the question if the c2d and the opty are both at 2.65ghz, which is the faster? Or are we comapring an overclocked opty to a stock c2d, or the fully overclocked c2d vs the fully overclocked opty?
