Doing some case tidying amd duct modding and:

Could I get air-cooling much cooler than this in a comfortable heated draught free house?

Well unless you live in an igloo. Your CPU is a few degrees below ambient. Which is no mean feat on air.

Apart from lowering the speed, i'd be surprised if it could go any lower on air.

Got any pics btw. I'd like to see how you did it.

no pics - dead camera battery but here is what i did:
    Antec TX1050B case

2 80mm fans at the front, 1 in lower (Maxtor) HDD cradle and one open at bottom. HDD cradle fan driven off mobo, open fan driven directly. I replaced the 120mm exhaust with a low noise high flow jobbie (Akasa or Coolermaster i think). I put a 80mm fan in the lower side panel blowing directly at the PCI cards and the PCI-e heatsink (and to a lesser extent over the mobo mosfets).
I took the original 92mm side fan duct and placed it on the outside of the case (so it sticks out like a funnel!!!) and put an 92mm Akasa Amber in ther drawing air onto the top of the CPU cooler and to a lesser extent over the mosfets and the PCI-e card passive cooler.

I tidied up all the power cables and used round IDE cables and bound them into a single 'spine' running vertically down the case behind the HDD cages and in front of the mobo to one side to avoid interrupting the air front>back.
Nothing more complex than that. Oh and very careful assembly.

My next experiment will be to attach a bit of 'hoover hose' to the 92mm intake duct and hang it out of the window! I wonder how low I can go.

TBH I could never get 4 harddrives down below 30'C inside a case no matter how hard I try.

Your temperature looked like you booted up for about 5 minutes where the case haven't got any hot air inside. Give it an hour of stress test and I don't think it will be as low as the picture shows.

You'll need to add an 120mm fan outside the window to push air in, otherwise the tube length will be probably too much for your fan to handle. But on the other hand if it happens to rain outside you'll be f****d.

I say well done! What were your temps before hand? And obviously, what are they now your computer has been running for a good while?

So the system has been running a good 2 hours now and has some serious high CPU abuse from Sonar/Reason/multiple VSTis/VSts and this is the picture:

Still not bad but not as amazing.....

I changed everything bar the case and the RAM and the PSU and the HDDs on this build.

First run on the E6600/P5WDH setup was idle 31C IIRC

    27'C CPU is amazing...My T7200 idle at 1Ghz 54'C (Max 85'C)... Pentium D idle at 55'C (Max 72'C)

Although I do feel that your CPU sensor is not properly calibrated, because your intake temperature would be around 29'C after passing your hdds (unless your have a side panel intake fan), 0'C temperature difference is well...not possible?

Well changing from a P4 to an E6400 is going to cooler it down anyway...
But still, 27c is a good temp, Mine is at 35c when overclocked and is currently at 30c (i've reverted to stock speed at the moment).

Just shows what a bit of airflow and clever cabling can do for a case.
