AM2 cooler - one that uses 3 lugs or bolts

My ASUS M2NPV-MX heatsink retention bracket just broke - the bottom middle 'lug' broke so now I have one of 2 options:

    - get a cooler that clips onto all 3 lugs
    - get a cooler which bolts onto the mobo

Im way out of touch in terms of AM2 coolers (i had just been using stock up till now), but am after something that will cool as well as stock AND [b] it must be nor taller than 6 cm[b] as its going in a low profile case. I don't really feel like splashing out more than £15-20 inc for one and was hoping one of you guys could recommend me a suitable replacement.

I also thought about replacing the bracket, but both Scan and Asus are taking there time getting back to me so i thin kill probably be better going alone on this one....

Is it 6cm dead? As Zalman CNPS7700 is 67mm.

Nice ! 6.7cm should be alright, but I just need to check if the 7700 will fit without interfering with my ram/PSU.

IIRC these arent that expensive either - about £15ish me thinks....

Looks like the 7700 is no good - no AM2 support according to Zalman's website. I thin kive found one - Artic Cooling Silencer 64 - it doesnt seem great, but has 3 lug clips and is dirt cheap... gonna call yoyo to see if they have any in their store...

Aww, damn, 7700 is such a good cooler. Anyway, the Silencer 64 is very silent at low speed, although not that efficient. I suppose if the CPU isn't overclocked, it would deal with the load. Although if it doesn't, you will end up with some noise, as the Silencer is moderately noisy at high speed. Don't know if you care about it or not, though

Yeah, it's not great but all it will be cooling in a Sempron 3000+ at stock so should be able to handle it. The old stock HSF was pretty much silent using asus qfan.

Am i right in assuming the 'clipping-onto-lugs' mechanism is the same for AM2 and 939 right?

Oh, if it's a Sempron 3k it'll do just fine. Don't know anything about the clip mechanism, though.

Thanks for the offer mate, but just slipped in an order or a low profile AM2 cooler from scan.

I just realised that my AM2 bracket doesnt have 3 lug (damn my powers of mis-observation!)... nvm...
