After a quick look at the data sheets, VTT is set at VCCQ/2. I presume VTT is a reference voltage for VCCQ and aids in stabilising VCCQ?

You have POTed Pin 5 to ground, but does it actually change VTT ?

Pin 2 does look a likely suspect for more Vcore, but my suspicions are that even after modding and obtaining higer VCCQ, these won't be very stable unless you get the relationship of VTT = VCCQ/2 pretty much spot on.

Apologies if I seem to be posing more questions than answers.

    Thanks.

My apparent rise in volts using a volt meter was nothing more than the volts swinging around on bootup....but coincidentally timed with my twiddles on the pot. (measured off pin 7) also the volts in BIOS move up to 1.44v and I thought that was my 3%.(sigh) I mearured off pins 1 and 2 as well but they stayed the same.

Anyhoo, I hooked the pot up to the RT9174 chip (near the dimms and AGP slot) same idea on the feedback and the PC locked when I went too high with it, and I measued off the VR next to it and got a rise in volts there. (3.6v - 3.8v) But it's not Vcore as vcore stays @ 1.42v - 1.44v in bios. I have no live feedback in the BIOS for vAGP or vDIMM so don't know which that was. On boot up it lists all the volts for vcore / AGP / PCI / DIMMs but they don't move either.

These are the only two VR control chips I can find on the board, so it must be the 1st one.

So am I limited by the 3% margin on the chip then?

no, i doubt thats the chip.
searching on google found nothing, just need a pic of the board so i goto apoens site now

sticking the pot anywhere and just testing is a VERY good way to kill a board. i wouldnt risk it tbh...

whats the codes on the chips above and to the right of the nb in that pic? assuming its the right mobo?
the chip WONT be near the dimm slots - definaltly isnt the one pictured above, and also wont be near the pci slots.

it can have any number of legs - the vr on my 9700 has 20.

also if you are going to test like that, use atleast a 50k one or use several lower ones in series, it will give you a lot more control like that aswell

I'm using a 100k pot. I'm not sticking the pot on willy nilly m8, I've found the only two likely chips and played with those using the datasheets.

I've checked every chip on this board, but there's a couple that I can't find what they are, I'll give the numbers below.

The chips above the NB on that pic are:

    ICS clock gen
    CBT3125

There's a couple of very small ICs near the VRs that I can't find info on and I'll give the numbers when my torch has recharged.

I'll list every chip for you when the torch is ready.

    Cheers,

    MM

dont know what chip it is, but me thinks its the 16/20 pin chip (cant make out how many legs its got from the pic) above nb on right, unless thats the ICS chip..
